Default Cam Install Question

Is it a good idea to change out my lifters when I do my G5X3 cam, spring and moly pushrod install. My car has 13,500 miles. Are my original lifters roller lifters? If not would the Comp roller lifters offer more HP because of less frictional loss riding up and down on the cam?

Your original lifters are roller lifters and should be fine for the new cam. If you were to change them out you would have to pull the heads and it looks like you are just doing a cam swap. With only 13,500 miles on them they should be practically new. When I changed mine, I had the heads off, they looked new so I didn't have to change mine.

Your original lifters will be fine.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will be having the cam package installed in early February.

If you are pulling the heads yes, if not, its not worth pulling the heads just for new lifters. Just make sure you take the usual precautions, somebody recently dropped two in to the oil pan while doing a cam only.

Good Luck!

Don't take anything for granted!!
Make sure they pull the intake manifold and check the lifters!!
I can't prove they didn't inspect mine when I had my G5-X2 installed, but when I went in for the AFR head install 12K later, the cam and lifters were toast!! I was very unhappy to say the least and NOONE wanted to accept responsibility!!

I'm changing mine out, but I have over 60K more miles. I'll be using aftermarket OEM-type lifters.

Intake won't gain access, you have to pull the heads on an LS1 to get at the lifters.

I'm curious who did your install. I just had LG install heads, cam and headers. When I told Lou I assume they would install new lifters he said of course they would. I only have 15,000 miles on my Z06.
