I own a six speed 2000 coupe with minor bolt-ons(exhaust, air intake), I was wondering what is the best technique to launch the C5 without spinning the wheels or bogging out. Another question I have is, will your clutch burn out after a couple of runs at the strip? and what kind of times should I be looking to get at the 1/8 mile(closest track to me) and what kind of trap speeds is average for the C5.
I have a 99 with the only mod being a Blackwing and B&M shifter so hopefully my times can be close to yours. I started at the track running with the stock Run-Flats then switched to Goodyear F1GSD3's and finally purchased a set of BFG TA DR's for summer and track use. The runfalts are a challenge to luanch. I usually left the line around 1300 and about half way thru first I would apply full throtle. This netted a best of 13.22 @ 108. I then replaced the runflats with the F1GSD3's all around and traction improved, alot. The new F1's netted a best of 12.94 @ 108. The best improvment came from the DR change. I kept the rears at the 18" size. This change netted my personal best of 12.58 @ 110. Hope this legacy helps a little. As for the clutch, I have about 125 runs on my stock clutch with out any issues. Trap speed for the 1/8 is around 85 MPH on average. Hit the track and have fun. I never raced until I purchased my 99 and now its the most fun I have in the summer.
One opinion:
Come out ~1800. But if you still have GY Run Flats, don't waste your time till you get a decent set of tires.
Make sure slip the clutch and ease into gas don't mash it unless you want a really cool burn out. Once you get sticker and sticker tires then you can start getting more aggressive with gas and clutch.
