Default Head and cam questions

Does anyone know of a good head/cam combo for a daily driven C5? I would like for the car to stay as close to stock as possible, while still producing good #s. Can anyone help me out?

What kind of HP improvement should I expect with a head/cam upgrade?

I have heard of people installing underdrive pulleys when changing camshafts. How necessary is this? How much HP does it free up? How will it affect the car (A/C, radio, etc.)?

A Heads and Cam combo is not going to be at it's full potential if you have the stock manifolds still on the engine.

I have Patriot Stage 3 LS6 style heads and a 220/230 duration cam going in my Z06 in the spring but it's going to idle like **** and not produce a great daily driver.

IMO MTI has the best heads but they're also so damn expensive. Stage 2 Heads and a Nice mellow cam should produce anywhere from 370+rwhp depending on how hot of a cam you go.

You should also look into going with a Magnacharger kit for your C5. It produces awesome low and mid range torque which will suit a Daily driven C5 better.

Do my setup.. Cant get closer to stock sounding than that! see my siggy. Yes, underdrive pulley upgrade is a norm for h/c cars. 7-10rwhp wen combined with h/c setup. absolutely no affect on battery charging. i have an idle clip posted here too. do a search for my post on MTI stealth cam at idle

This is where I started.

Base 299RWHP

1) Just Stage I heads ported by local shop milled 0.010/MTI B1 cam (221/221 .558/.558 114) flow 271/211 @ .600 354RWHP

2) Blackwing/LS6 intake/Borla Stingers/Tune 374RWHP

3) High flow air bridge/SVO 30#/Kooks/high flow cats/Dyno tune 392RWHP

Drivability is excellent. With 3.42s I got close to 28mpg on highway. This WAS my daily driver.

Now I have forged LS6 with AFR 205 heads and 234/238 .595/.605 114 cam. Dyno #s TBA as soon as I break it in.

Can't wait to see the #'s on that new beast. Nice lift on that cam.
I bet you'll be putting down 440ish rwhp.

I'm only getting 22 mpg in my cam only. Wonder if something's wrong with my set-up....

Niiiiice!
It's amazing what these small blocks can put out with the right goodies.

I'll be sure not to run with any red Vettes with MD plates, so I don't get caught in a race with you.

Not including tuning. It depends on size of the cam.

Stock,

I've got a nice Stage 2 Cartek Heads & Cam package to include matched set of lifters, pushrods, rockers etc......... This set-up has a mild cam and great street manners. It made 420RWHP with all the other bolt-ons you can buy. I'm selling it for $1250 plus UPS freight & insurance if interested. Email me at: dtsngit@bellsouth.net if you'd like to discuss.

Look at my sig and you can see my cam specs. At idle my car sounds stock with the exception of the long tubes and Corsa's making it louder, virtually no lope. 413rwhp 394rwtq
