What "book' was that in? I had read it someplace on-line, or maybe it was in the video that came with my car. At any rate, if there's a good book out there I think I would like to get it. There seems to be lots of interesting info behind the scenes of the C5 development.

When you put a Donaldson air filter on a 2002+ Z06 you run into the pig rich situation and the 01 did not have that problem. Solution, if you do it you have to retune.

I knew it!!! This is exactly my problem! My stock '01 runs great but my '02 with no MAF screen (from the factory) and a Blackwing runs like crap.

I have never tuned a car. I dont have anything like the HP Tuner but if I have to get it I will. Two questions:

1) what needs to be tuned in the car to fix my issue?
&
2) what is the cheapest/easiest way to do it?

thanks guys!

1. The PCM needs to get tuned. Surely I'm answering the wrong question.

2. Find a buddy with HPTuners that has the same year C5 as your C5. HPTuners single user licenses can program any car of the same year. I just found someone local with the same year C5 as my car, and damn near exactly the same options as my car, so I'm going to hook him up with a tune when I get better.

Exactamundo! Did same, logged a lot of miles and backed up with dyno.
Never a miss, 0 KR, perfect trims, etc.
Without logging, you are only guessing........................

I've heard a lot of discussion on both sides. I thought that removing the screen increased airflow a little bit, which changed the reading on the MAF, which would cause it to run a little bit leaner. This gave some early C5's (97, 98, maybe 99?) a few extra hp because the stock tuning was a little rich, and this balanced it out.

In a nutshell, if you do it, you will need some tuning to keep it running right.

And an intake that will put air thru the MAF like the stock intake does. Not a problem if you stay with a stock intake.

I took mine out and did not get any KR. I tuned it only because my ltrims were high. I have no issues currently. I spray a dry shot so I had to take my screen out.
