Default Will I save on labor?

I am about ready to do a cam package only. Is there any labor savings by having the heads done at the same time as the cam? What I am getting at is there the same type of disassembly of common parts between the two types of installs? If I would save some labor $$$'s by doing both at the same time, I would consider doing them both together. If there is no savings, I would then do the heads at a later date.

I'm not sure, but I think it'll be alot cheaper to have them done at the same time. Your going to have to take them off anyways I think, so it should be much better to get them done now.

Default Replacing H/C

If you doing a cam, you minus well do the heads as well....Some people change the cam without removing the heads.....I personally think you will save $$$$ doing both things at opnce. The thing about replacing cam with out removing heads is you got to make sure that the push rods stay in place when you slide cam out and put newone in, if not you will be removing heads for sure!

Good Luck

Usually a cam only replacement comes in around $450, head and cam around $1300. You make the call!

If you are upgrading the cam, you will (hopefully) also be upgrading the valve springs.
The only real shared labor involved there is the removal of the coil packs, valve covers, rockers, etc.

If doing heads too, the intake will need to be removed, dropping the headers (or ex. manifolds) and (obvioudly) R&R of the heads themselves. That isn't much additional work at all, certianly not $850 worth of labor as posted above.

$450 would be a good proce for an F-body cam (only) install.
I'd love to know who does it that cheap on a C5, where the cam is much more work to swap then the heads are, I can't imagine why it'd be half the price in labor.

You definitely save some money on labor by doing both the heads and cam at the same time. Plus you save by only having to have the car tuned once.

Don't the installers use magnets to hold the lifters off the cam on the cam only install?
