A small issue I've noticed with my '99 FRC is when I decelerate (MN6) in gear from a moderately high RPM (say 3000 RPM for example) I can hear a chirping noise that I can't really identify. It's either a driveshaft bearing or something like that, or just the serp. belt tensioner. Are there any known issues that are driveshaft related causing a chirping noise? Sorry to be so vague.... Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks for your help guys!
ooh good point, Ill check that. I wonder also if it could be the heat shield that buzzes when the car is cold... That I still haven't isolated either..
Before you get too wrapped around the axel looking for this noise, there have been issues where the intermediate pipe "H" pipe can make this noise! Some people discribe the sound as a jingling noise like keys or a chirp. The holes between the two sides of the exhaust that are connected by the H pipe are a little bit bigger than a quarter. The interior diameter of the H pipe is much bigger than that.
Some how the size of the hole and the way the exhaust flows over the hole makes that noise.
Ok thanks Bill! Definately something to think about. As long as there isn't any popular condition for chirping driveshafts like there is for sticking clutch pedals I'll just leave it be. It doesn't bother me that much. Maybe an X pipe will fix the noise...
I was getting a chirp/squeeking noise when I would take off from stop around 1000rpm to 2000rpm. It was one of the idler pullies I just cleaned the bearings and rebacked them and no more chirp.
