Is there any gain at all by changing to K&N air filter? I ordered one, because, at least you can reuse them, but there isn't any diff. in HP is there? Should I change to a Z06 intake? Any gain there?
I have a K&N in my 98 Coupe and my 02 Z06. They do perform better and I like the performance gain. Very easy to keep clean and if you do not over oil them there should not be a problem with oil on the MAF.
I will be installing a VARARAM very soon and will be selling my K&N. I also have an 01 Z06 air box and lid that I am going to post on the C5 parts for sale forum.

The K.N. air filter is a great product but you probably not going to feel a change. The intake is a good power builder and with the K.N. you should feel a change.
If you want to save money do the ole zip tie modification (do a search on this and you will find a thread with instructions). for 99 cents. This eliminates the stock air box (what a joke). It will take you about 15 minutes. Anyone ca do this mod its ver very simple. It will not look as good as blackwing or some of the others that run $200 or more but it sure gives you a seat of the pants improvement over the stock airbox. 10-12 rwhp. Make sure you get the weatherstrip for $11.99 (Ecklers sells them as well as Westcoast corvettes). This will keep water out
...I don't like the K&N's because the oil finds it's way into the MAF and intake plenum...and who knows where else......Read here a few months back that someone had done dyno time and found the paper filter out performed the oil and gauze.
i second that.
if i recall correctly, the dyno said < 1 HP difference between the std paper Fram and no filter at all??, so, if that's the case, how much can you gain with a K&N HP wise?. then there's the issue of the K&N not filtering as well as a good paper filter (some say it results in more silica in the oil, i.e., passed more sand thru it). not to mention the problems with to much, or not enough, oil on the cloth.
do some research and decide........ i run a std. Fram air filter on the LS-1, but do use the K&N HP1007 oil filter for it's balance of flow/filtration

From an '01 stock to an '02 or newer Z06 lid will give a little more power. I would stick with the paper filter, and just make sure you change it periodically.
