I have a 98 6spd coupe went to start it and nothing all the electronics are working and the battery says I have 11 volts but when I turn the key nothing. I checked the code in DIC then wrote them down and cleared them, after a while I went out and tryed to start it again NOTHING. It did through a new code though P1626 I think this means the security system is killing my fuel supply but the starter isn't even turning. Is there any way around this? Any help? PLEASE
How old is your battery? I believe 11 volts is low. However, it's the current that starts your car and if your batter doesn't put sufficient CCAs, you'll end up with a no-start.
battery is less than a year old. everything in the car electronics wise works but when I turn the Key Nothing.
Clean the resistor on the key with some rubbing alcohol, wait a few minutes and try again. This happended to me once and cleaning the key helped. 11v is a little suspect on the voltage, but if you aren't getting any noise at all, it is probably the key.
Hmmmmmm you are right that code is P1626 Theft Deterrent System Fuel Enable Circuit .... And the starter is not turning. I do not know how to "reset" the security system - maybe someone can help here?
First check the battery connections, remove the cables from the battery and check for corrosion. Check the body grounds on the frame next to the engine on the drivers' side. On some early C5's there were bad electrical harnesses. My '98 didn't start and the problem was a pinched cable under the console; when the console was off, the car started but when it was replaced the car wouldn't start. This cable feeds the aux power socket in the console and also connects to the fuel door release etc. After the cable was untaped and retaped it was moved to the right of the cup holder (toward the passenger side console wall) so that the console wouldn't pinch it when replaced. The loads I added were also removed from the three wire pigtail near the fuse box; this circuit is related to the cable and the starting system. After three years the car always has started and the pinched cable seems to have been the original cause of not starting. Let us know what fixed the problem for the archives.
Thank you all for your help. I got fed up with the thing and took it back to the dealer. They found out that the starter had died so they put one in for me no charge (warrenty) since I didn't have to pay for that I had them through in a Z06 clutch kit including fly wheel and through out bearing. These guys are great I can't say enough good things about them Cooper Corvettes in Triangle Va.
Now for an update Picked up the car Friday at 11 AM with new clutch and starter motor installed, went to My bros shop and installed the SLP's WOW! After letting the car relearn how to idle went for a ride and with traction control on still managed to break 2nd gear loose. So I have had the car 6 weeks and the mods are as follows Z06 rims new F1 supercar tires, transplanted tire sensors, light fly wheel, and SLP loudmouth. Ill try to get some pics up this weekend.
