I have been shopping around for replacements for my run flats on the '00. I have put at least two sets of Yokohama's on my '91 but this will be my first replacement set for the 2000. I would like to get something that is less expensive than the run flats.
I'm looking for suggestions. I do not race the car. Basically it is my daily driver so $387 for a front tire and $408 for a back tire is a bit stiff. Since it is a daily driver, I am looking for a tire that will hold up in the rain. I live in the south so I want a tire with a hard rubber that will not melt off the car in the 95+ degree summer temperatures.
I had previously bought all my Yokohama tires from Sears. Several sets for my '91 Vette and the same for my 300Z. Unfortunately Sears no longer carries Yokohama's so I have to go elsewhere for them or use the less expensive alternatives they have (Sumitomo and Falken).
Anyone got any suggestions on tires or can comment on the Sumitomo or Falken brands.
I have the factory stock rims (P245/45ZR17 and P275/40ZR18) with the tire pressure sensors.
michelin pilot sports zero pressure blow the stock runflats away by a mile..better handling, smoother, quieter, better wet traction...and have a better wear rating...only negative is the look...some people like it, I'm not sold on it, but the tire has been great so its not a big deal. Damn glad to not have the Goodyears anymore tho
i have mich run flats the ride was so quiet when i put them on i had to adjust my ears - for real.
No question they are far better in every category than the GY's. If you don't want RF's take a look at the Continental Extreme Contact. Great all weather tires.
I replaced my GYRF's with non-runflat Michelin Pilots on my 2000 coupe. I added a scissor jack, lug wrench, tubless plug kit and electric tire inflator to the middle storage compartment. Plenty of room even with CD changer and towels. Tires are MUCH quieter, smoother and handle great wet or dry. If you're not comfortable repairing a tire at roadside, then stick with RF's.
I checked out the Kuhmo thread and had promising feedback there. I also checked out information and feed back on Tire Rack and found good feed back there.
I'm heading down to Sears during lunch to see if the carry the Kuhmo or Michelin products.

I waz wondering the same so I created a poll like 3 days ago to see which run-flats to get here:
I bought the Kumho ASX and have been satisfied, but I only have about 1000 miles. I replace D3 which the previous owner put on the car and as far as handling the D3 were probably better than the Kumho, a little stiffer sidewall, but the kumhos may have more treadlife. Time will tell.
PS I drive daily, mostly through small towns that have radar guns.
Changed over to Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S ZP 22,000 miles back and they are the absolute best on the 99 6mm coupe. For my $ you can't go any better than Michelin's. Good Luck !
Look at the continental extreme contact tires. They have a 400 tread wear rating and DO stick real good and not to mention they are REALLY SEXY! I have close to 30000 on them and can get another 5-7000 more!
