Looking forward to mounting up some Nitto R2's on some five spoke repro wheels with Z06 size and offset. I like having the tire pressure info on the DIC but what happens if the sensors are not mounted on the new wheels ( I am going to have two sets of tires). Also, is there a battery in that thing, do these things have a life?

I believe you`ll have a message to "service TPS Monitoring System" you`ll have to reset at every start-up.
Yes the Individual sensors have a 5-7 year lithium battery that is not replaceable.
Why wouldnt you want sensors in your new rims??? If they cant be mounted in the valve stem hole you can zip tie and glue the sensor on the inside of the rim. Many people have done this and it works well!
There is a forum member who has figured out the in's and outs of the sensors and rebuilds the sensors (replaces the batteries) and seems to have a good sensor reliability!
I agree that sensors are a good thing. The forum member that rebuilds the sensors (Neri at Nericreations) can only work with the older style, not the new ones. Battery life should be at least 5 years, but if you're replacing tires it is a good time for fresh sensor batteries. If you do not end up with sensors a GM mechanic with the tech tool can inactivate the TPS system so you don't get the DIC messages, but only on newer years.
