I just noticed that everytime I start my 02 Coupe the average fuel mileage is reset to zero and the display is set to the odometer even though I always leave it on oil temperature. This problem just started recently.
Has anybody seen this before? Any ideas what the problem might be?
It sounds like your battery isn't able to stand the load of starting. Most likely your battery is about to die. When my car did this the battery load tested fine but it was starting to leak so I replaced it.
Before replacing it, check the battery terminals and make sure they're clean and the clamps are tight. Also look for signs of leakage, especially around the positive terminal. The stock AC Delco's have a habit of leaking and ruining the wiring/electronics under them. If you see leakage make sure to clean the tray and under it as best you can with baking soda in water or some other battery acid cleaner when you replace the battery.
The consensus here seems to be to buy an Optima Red Top battery if you need a new one.

Voltage drop is a great idea on something to check and would certainly cause the problem.
The battery is a new Optima red top. It was installed about 3 weeks ago when the battery was relocated to the rear as part of my supercharger installation. If I have a bad or high resistance connection that could certainly cause a voltage drop when starting the car.
Sounds like your battery is not doing well at the initial startup. Voltave going too low will cause that very problem. Check the DIC ans see if you have a lot of NO COMMS codes! If you do, it is probably a battery isue.
Check the reserve capacity of the batterl and also do a load test.
I got out my DVM this afternoon and it told the story. With the car not running I have 12.47v at the battery and 11.2v showing on the DIC. With the voltage that low even when not starting the car it is no wonder that the memory is getting reset.
You have a lot of resistance somewhere. My recommendation would be to glean your engine grounds, connection between the alternator and the engine, and battery ground on the frame and engine block. That is a lot of resistance and a very bad voltage drop!

Get an Optima redtop battery... QUICK! You (and I) are a couple of the lucky ones who got this advance notice that the battery is about to give out. Others report it went like flipping a switch.
