I have installed Volant intakes in my '04 Suburban and my son's '04 4.3 V6 Silverado with great results. Anyone have feedback on how the one they have for my '02 Coupe might work? I'm currently running the Z06 box, and it's been fine - but these are CARB exempt and did a great job on our trucks...
you can get one off of ebay thats identical for 42 bucks
but if it were me id go with the vararam its expensive but worth it in my opinion
i have one and can testify it works
time consuming to install about 2 hours but worth it in my opinion
If you have to have CARB-approved mods, then the K&N FIPK is an excellent choice. I, too will someday need to get a smog inspection and therefore chose an intake that can be easily swapped-out and doesn't cost an arm and leg. The Halltech Stinger-R intake system represents the best bang for your buck out there, bar none. Here's the link: http://www.corvettegarage.com/produc...-Corvette.html
Check out the surface area of the filter in relation to the Volant cone filter area. I think you'll agree that there's no comparison.
Regarding smog checks, You'd hate yourself if you had to swap out and reinstall a Vararam every two years. Although this is a good system, it is impractical in smog-restricted states that require a visual inspection.

Well, yeah, I at least want CARB legal stuff up where the visual is easy to catch - headers might not be such an issue with my smog guy. I will check out the Stinger - thanks a million!
...just to clarify, although the Stingers are not CARB-approved, they can be swapped out in 15-30 minutes. The K&N FIPK cost about $100 more, but can remain in your C5, as they are CARB-approved.
I saw where you were coming from, Dave. You are putting good numbers up for a bolt-on car - basically what I have in mind, too. Question - what is the cold air scoop mod?

Many thanks for all your sound advice,
Lee
Lee,
The cold air scoop mod involves cutting the lower radiator cover (beneath the aftermarket open-element air filter), and installing a stainless steel wire mesh and an unbreakable polycarbonate "scoop" that you can buy at any Staples office supply store. The cold air that is directed at the filter prevents your engine's computer from retarding the timing in response to (what would've been) rising engine bay temps. Without the cold air mod, your HP output could be reduced by 10 - a definite seat-of-the-pants difference.
Complete procedures for this modification, as well as detailed instructions for installing the Halltech Stinger and BPP shifter can be found at: http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htm
Don't waste your money on the Volant, I had one on my 04 coupe for about a year and finally switched to Vararam. What a difference, the Volant in my opinion did not present any performance gain especially when compared to the Vararam!
