This thread kind of cought me off guard! Every and any other vehicle that I've ever seen with an aftermarket intake filtration kit or K+N filter drop in didn't need any kind of computer tuning at all. I guess I should just be glad that I found this thread before I went and bought a blackwing or stinger filter...
I find it interesting that the PCM isn't smart enough to retard the timing before the pinging begins at all.... Thats how the computers work in the cars I'm used to... Can anyone expand on this for me? I mean there are two knock sensors right in the valley plate on our LS1's.
I had continuous pinging on my 2001 Vette with the Granantelli MAF and K&N filter with Ecklers airbox lid (larger opening) above 5500 rpm @ WOT (hot day or cool day). I also ran 94 Sunoco fuel all the time.
I repalced the Granatelli MAF with the stock MAF and the problem went away.
