It's hard to prove but owner reports seem to indicate the 04's are a little stronger. It appears some of the fat that GM built into the LSX series of motors was taken out yielding slightly more HP. Many 04 owner's report getting "lean" codes when they install any low restriction intake like Blackwing etc. Where as, on almost every other LSX motor even after installing an intake the AFR's are still rich. If I had to guess this factory tweaking (if true) may have yielded another 5 HP or so. But every little bit helps. Again there is no official confirmation by GM on this, just anecdotal evidence based on what 04 owners report on the forum.

Hopefully some 04 owners will respond with their opinions as well as dyno numbers and if any of them experienced the "lean codes" after installing an intake.

Tom
So this means when I install my Blackwing,it will throw a lean code?? If so should I take the Blackwing off? HEB

Well, I can tell you what I got yesterday on the dyno. I started with a stock '03 Z06 w/21K miles on her. Best run was 347.6HP/333.8 torque. We then installed the Callaway Honker and got a best run of 358.6HP/347.1 torque. At WOT the A/F went fat to 12.4. During STFT learning, we saw 13.4 or so.

I have thrown no codes......

04, HAlltech TRAP, no codes. Got a buddy- 03, TRAP, so many codes he took it off.

I heard on here somewhere that the 04 FI included bigger injectors, but maybe that was just an assumption based on the "better capabilities" alluded to above. ??

No codes on my 04 with the Vararam. Was running 10.5-11.5 A/F before and after the Vararam. No codes at all.

Lower I think, those are the ones that can move due to heavy breaking, usually only guys that track a lot get this problem.

With Vararam and Corsa Extreme Catback system, I was throwing lean codes. A trip to the tuners solved that issue and she runs like a scalded dog!

The carbon fiber hood was only on the Z16 cars - as well as the polished wheels and the stripes.
