Default Battery died again

Its been about six weeks since it died the first time. It has sat for over a week on a couple of occasions without any problem. I last drove it 2 days ago. Completely dead. I thought it might be in the shut down sequence. I don't think it is because I've been watching that closely. The only clue I have at this time is that on both ocasions, I had entered the car to retrieve an item between starts. Maybe it is the battery. But then why did it work fine for the last six weeks. Anyone with a new battery had a battery failure yet?

There have been a couple posts that their ground was loose on the car under the fuse box and there have been post of bad batteries.

Good luck.

My battery is fine. No problems. Maybe you left something on in the car and don't know it?

Picked up my car on 11-1-2004, battery died 10 days later, replaced with larger battery by dealer. I have had no problems since, and often it sits for a week or so.

Similar events with me. After the second failure, replaced the battery. Yesterday morning after sitting for eleven days without cranking, and at 18 degrees, she fired right up.

Very strange, but when I had my dead battery I remember getting in to do something between the time of my last drive and the dead battery incident. I know I always shut the thing down properly. Also on a few occasions I have either opened the hatch from the back or got in to do some thing then later get ready go some place. Well on these occasions when I enter the car the bell chimes with no indication of what it is trying to tell me, the bell rings till I shut the door, I go through the start up/ shut down sequence get out. When I reenter after these things happen everything is normal.

It appears to me something gets activated and even though a proper shut down was accomplished there is some form of drain. I don’t think a new battery is the solution it might allow the power to last longer before complete drain, there by masking the problem in some cases. I have my suspicions there is something else going on that will eventually surface and can be corrected once and for all.

I have had battery issues as well. I have been reading everything I can on this subject on the forum. There have been several post pointing to going into the car to retrieve something and then having the battery go dead. Hmmmm!

I have two cars that I don't drive in the winter. They both have battery tenders hooked up to the batteries until Spring.

My vett is only 3 months old; it has had a dead battrey 3x times since i got it, no idea what the prob is.

In addition, yesterday i had two messages appear. "Check column lock" or something like that. I took it to the dealer and they said "we will order this part". Will take all day to fix.

I drove it the rest of the day then when i got home, i checked the internet for that error message. The Corvette manual says to stop the car and have it towed to the dealership... hmmm, wonder why the dealership didnt advise that...

I am going to keep driving it i guess. May end up owning part of GM...

Hmmm....I think there is a clue here. When my battery died the tow truck driver was able to steer the car without a problem. In other words the column lock was not locked. I just have a hunch that occasionally the column lock is not engaging fully and is wearing the battery down.

Default Should I order now???

I am concerned. I had planned on ordering my new C6 tomorrow. With all these bad batteries (or what ever is causing it - I doubt it is the battery) and the alternator problems... I wonder if I should wait.

What does everyone think???

Yup, and then I don't even need to change gears to get out of the garage!

Whatever feels right to you. I think "we" (us with the battery problems) are determined to figure it out. Once we do, there should be a fix for ours and yours (if you get one now). Really, its clearly an irratant, but I would buy it again without question.
