Perhaps there's a reason that's a C5 thread. It would really be best left as a C5 thread.

It would be nice if they were all just Corvettes again. Not a C anything.

The whole "C" generational discriptor is nothing but devisive and only serves to bolster this type of snotty attitude.

I bought a Corvette because I have always wanted a Corvette. It just so happens the timing I was able to afford it was when the 05's came out. So what.

I have to tell you the most negative aspect of Corvette ownership so far for me has been the continued generational conflict that seems to come mainly from this one area.

I'm sorry that all my fellow '05 Corvette owners and I didn't follow whatever prescribed course in aquiring a Corvette those self-proclaimed protectors of "All that is Corvette" would have approved of.

Just Ranting!

quoting from that thread:
"Whereas the C5 and C6 share almost everything..thats why the parts are so easily swappable. ...sorry just not impressed."

like what, the oil filter and spark plugs?

i was surprised to see the negativitity that popped up in that thread,
I certainly didnt think the original post deserved it.

Ive got 130K on my C5 and 2K on my C6, love them both, and would
certainly never flame someone for telling me how great their C7 is
when it comes out.

[QUOTE]Comments need to be kept civil or they will be deleted and posting privileges could be jeopardized.

The Forum should be a fun and friendly place to hang out and not a hostile environment. Civility to fellow Forum members is always appropriate.[QUOTE]

If some of you can, read the above before posting some of the response comments.

Note that the person that started the thread in the C5 section was really happy that he purchased a C6. Many of us were happy he did so.
Many were JK him, no harm intended.

The other thread didn't seem all that bad to me. Certainly no worse than our defensive nature here! :o

i disagree. why would you NOT expect to see the type of responses he got? seriously. have you READ some of the threads here in the C6 forums?

the venom that gets spewed forth aimed at anyone posting nearly anything negative towards the C6 makes those guys look like rookies.

which, to be honest, is expected. we own C6's, naturally we're going to be protective of our "babies". JUST as the people in THAT forum.. the C5 forums, are protective of THEIR babies.

whether he did it intentionally or not, that guy was subtly trolling. if he wanted people to be happy for him, he should've posted THAT thread here in the C6 forums, plain and simple. as soon as i read it, the first thing that came to my mind was the "neener, neener, neener.. you car isn't *quite* as good as mine now" undertone.

just my humble opinion.

That was posted in the C5 section, the originator felt a need to tell C5 owners they missing out, he's entitled to his opinion as are the responses.

Why did you feel it necessary to bring to the C6 section? It should have stayed there and if you disagreed you could have posted your opinions or walk away.

Tom

in this section and the z06 section its much more nasty than that...and i dont get it..c6 is anice car and so will z06 be..but still it aint all that also..that you go all out and tell ppl buying ferraris that they are missing something thats y they are buying ferraris etc..simiarly for most i can say this(c6) could be acting like a mid life crisis...since everyone on this board is practically 50 years old..i know its not the case..but i mean..y pounce..i love all cars and i can never be into just one car...and keep proving its great and that its better than others..when it really isnt in most cases...

The original posting party was excited about his new car. He should've known what to expect and probably doesn't have a problem with the reaction he got. He's free to post what he likes.

To move the post to C6 GD was only promoting further discussion of a tired topic.
I don't want my car on a pedestal above any other person's car. I just bought the car to have a Corvette and I talk about it sometimes.

Truth be told I would have rather had a 100pt concours '59 Tuxedo Black/red coves/ red interior with a 283/4spd, but that wasn't possible and the '05 was.

It is sad to see the personnal attacks that are made on one group of owners based on what year of car they purchased. I had no idea this sort of animosity was so prevalent with Corvette owners. To be honest I don't think it is all Corvette owners but that's what we are exposed to.

I think it is comical that a common idea written about here in CF is that Chevy/GM is a second rate operation service-wise, production-wise, marketing-wise and any other wise you can think of. That Chevy/GM continually botches up Corvettes to the chagrin of the Corvette faithful.

These same critics openly wish for a more world class treatment like the other World Class Manufacturers.

Do Ferrari faithful treat each other with this contempt? If you own a 375mm do you question whether the owners of 430's you see parked in the lot are real Ferrari people? If you own a 456gt do you talk about the guys masculinity that has the Dino or the 246gto?

Well that's what goes on here in CF between generations.

I could not have said it better myself. I have been driving Vettes since I was 21 years old. I am now 58. LOL. Currently, I own an '02 QuickSilver Vette. I think a lot of this "snob" type attitude is coming from "newbies" buying their first Vette. There once was a time when just owning a Vette was no matter what the "generation" or the "C" designation. I have owned one of each "generation" over the years. And, have enjoyed them all. I will be ordering an '06 from Kerbeck. But, I will always wave at any Vette. Because when all is said and done they are all still Vettes.

Any way you look at it, posting "Glad to finally get rid of my C5" in the C5 forum is provocative and insulting to the C5ers no matter what the intent was. I'm surprised he didn't get flamed worse.

On a personal note, a Vette is a Vette no matter what year it is. They're all cool, and I'd be proud to own any year model. The C6 wouldn't be what it is without the reputation and tradition the C1-C5 models have created.

Titling the thread as he did the original poster definitely was looking for a reaction. That is the reason why many people post anything on the Internet, They want to know they had an effect, that they made someone think. That attempt at recognition is just not always excersized with the greatest restraint and forethought.

it would be nice if everyone realized that a car is a car, we all share the same interest. I have a c5.. i really like the c5. i am very happy for everyone that has the ability, financialy, to move up to the c6. if thats their choice. i hope to be able to do that someday. but in the meantime, i wish that all corvette owners would just keep it real, and respect everyone,... well... maybee not the ricers,,, ha.. AVOID ANIMOSITY.......... no one should be critisized for their choice of car. JMO

I think it's wonderful that the moderators finally stopped moving this type of thread over to the C6 section, so why would anyone else want to deliberately inflame this forum? We really didn't need a link to another C5 versus C6 flame contest.

Basically, this is all a bunch of BS with people defending their own cars by diminishing the merits of others. Most members of the Corvette Forum avoid this type of childish behavior, but enough don't that it creates this kind of animosity. This "my car is better than your car" nonsense is simply degrading for all involved, and irritating for the rest of us.

The C5 is a wonderful car and, for years, was the best Corvette GM had to offer. I didn't own one. I feel the C6 incorporates the changes that I wanted to see in the car...that was enough to put me in the seat of a new Corvette. Somehow, the simple act of owning and enjoying a C6 is seen as a put down of all other Corvettes, especially the C5. Obviously, it's not.

Personally, I think way too much time has been wasted on this subject. This is the last time I'll say anything about it.
