My artic z51 coupe went on the line 3/10. My dealer says he wont see it till 4/14. I find this a little to long to wait to ship to upstate ny.He tells me he wont even have a vin until it is on the trailer. Does this sound normal? Can anyone at GM help?

Did you try DePaula on Central Ave? He has a few in stock- Im in Valatie. Thanks
From what I learned here the Vin # is created right before the car is built and I haven't seen anyone have to wait that long here to get a car once it was built. Then again, we have seen some weird things happen. May want to do some digging on this one.
I smell here. Most of the people who's cars were on line and built got them within a week of it being built. Mine was built on a Monday and I took delivery on Friday. If the car was on line it has a VIN already. Chances are he doesn't have the allocation and is hoping it will be built withing that month time frame he's telling you. Post your order number for Marvin Johnson here on the forum and he can tell you the status of your car.

Received my Vin from Kevin almost 10 days BEFORE the car was built. Your dealer requires a lesson on how to use the internal GM ordering system.
Dealers do not get the VIN until after the car is built. They do not have computer access to the same information that Kevin has. Kevin has the VIN 10 days before the car starts on the line. Give him a call and tell him what your order # is and he will give you the VIN. With a TPW of March 10 your car should arrive at the dealer any day now, not April 14.
Ordered: 11/20/04
Accepted for production: 2/15/05
VIN from Kevin: 3/2/05
Off the line: 3/10/05 (from Kevin)
Dispatched: 3/14/05
Delivered to dealer: 3/19/05 (in San Diego)
does any one have kevins ph # or e-mail address. I think J bal is correct. This guy is new and just green to the accessability of the system.I know it's out there, just not here!
That doesn't sound normal to me. My car was built during the week of 3/21. It is now on a truck in route to the dealer.
Ask the dealer for your order number and current event code. That will tell you the car's status. If the car was actually on the line around 3/10, it would be off the line a few days after that. The dealer gets a VIN in the GM ordering system as soon as the car is off the line.
As an example, here's the timeline for my car so far...
4200 shipped 3/30
4b00 Bayed 3/28
4150 Invoiced 3/23 VIN 55121021
3400 Broadcast 3/12
3300 Scheduled for production 3/10
3100 Available to Sequence 3-5
3000 Accepted by Production Control 3-2
2500 Preferenced 3-1
2000 Accepted By GM 2-28
2050 Order Changed 2-23
Delivery time to your area of the country is the only issue. Not having the serial number is a BS story from your dealer. Either he is to lazy or incompetent and I would not deal with either one.
My car came off the line @ 2:30 PM on Fri. the 18th. I know, I drove it off. It arrived in Southeastern MI on the 23rd. I picked it up on the 24th. If you live near a major metro area, thay should put a load together is a reasonable period of time. If you live in the boonies, it may take longer for them to load a truck (11 cars) that is headed your way.

I actually have to defend the dealer on this one (and you know how I hate to do that ). Dealers don't get the VIN until after the car is built. Kevin, at the plant, has a different access on his computer and he has the VIN 10 days before it is built.

You are 100% correct but they do have access to his order status and that would tell him a lot.
