Ummm, for the 'purists' out there, that's all fine and dandy. I'll be more than happy to be un-pure and request an option for the controls as I much prefer them. That way everybody gets what they want .
As much of a performance car as the C6 is, it is also a GT car in that it was made to handle long distance travels (plenty of trunk space, very comfy and supportive seats, lumbar and side bolster supports, heated seats, NAV, HUD). I would much prefer the option to have steering wheel controls for those long journeys. Hell, even on my journey to work they come in handy. Keeping my eyes on the road is far more important than remaining pure

Anytime you have to take your eyes off the road even for a split second can be a dangerous situation.
Just my 2 cents...Aloha!

Many of the safety and technology advances have come off the track, F1 cars now have steering wheel shifting, the technology is there and no reason to not at least offer it as an option.

Hmmm, Firebirds have had radio controls since '96. Camaros picked them up in '00. I find them very handy on my Camaros and Trans Am, you can control all the radio functions without having to look at the radio or lift a hand off the wheel.
My '04 Dodge Dually also has them. They work great on the truck, the buttons are positioned on the backside of the wheel, out of view.

Here's the reason!

General Motors knows we are a captive audience.
We love our Corvettes so much that we accept obsolete design when it comes to creature comforts.
By the way, maybe the C8 will have adaptive cruise control. No need for the General to worry about "Frills". Years ago the Corvette was it's showcase for things like power windows, power stearing, sound systems ahead of their competition. Fuel injection and knock you dead interiors!
That was a long time ago. All the money now goes into the engine and Cadillac. This is fine, but the competition knows "fun of driving" is paramount. Maybe they should have two Vettes. A dragstip model with plastic sheets for windows, and a super duper model for the many people that love handling, acceleration, quietness, and that silky feeling that comes with quality.
The dragstrip model could come with a one speed transmission and no insulation for sound or temperature. The drive tunnel could second as a hot plate for my chicken nuggets.

Horny?
Doesn't anyone car about horn placement anymore? On my 95, I could reach the horn button while both hands are firmly on the wheel. One time, a lady in a Camry darted out into my path from a row of traffic, I slammed on my brakes, INSTINCTIVELY hit the horn ....AND.... steered around her with the help of ABS. I would say 90% of cars out there with controls on the steering wheel, you cannot reach the horn without taking one hand off the wheel. I think it is a saftey issue to be able to use the horn and keep BOTH hands on the wheel. Of course, there are safety benefits for placing accessory controls on steering wheels too, but if GM puts controls on the C6 wheel, I hope they don't lose the 2 lower spoke horn buttons.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
All of this bickering about it is moot. Dave Hill has made his opinion on the subject very clear so everyone may as well get used to it.

If steering wheel controls are too difficult for you too comprehend then you need to sell all your cars and buy a bus pass. The point of steering wheel controls is that you soon learn to use them without ever taking your eyes off the road. No matter how you slice it thats a good thing. If you dont want to use them when they are available, then dont. Calling them ricer is just plain stupidity.

Just because the east has things doesn't mean we can't too. They learn from us, we learn from them.
It's called world trade and it keeps our country rich, powerful, and best of all Happy!
We were the ones to to sail over there and open their ports to trade. It sure didn't hurt them or us. Don't forget that slowwww Chinese ship headed this way with our machine tools....
