Default Is this True?

We placed an order the a LMB coupe and our dealer said that the GM confirmed the order on 04/17. Is it true that he won't know the VIN number until 2 weeks before the car is built? (somewhere mid may he say). Just wondering because we have a personalized plate that the DMV needed to know the VIN number. Thanks

2 weeks before they build it? It might even be a little longer. Like right before, during or right after it's built.

Kevin only gets the full vin about a week prior to production. My VR vert is being built on Wed and Thursday (5/4 5/5) and Kevin only had a partial Vin until Monday of this week.

If nothing changes I will be there Thursday to take her off the line and then try to survive 12 days until I take Museum delivery on 5/17.

If you are planning a trip to see it being built, you MUST call Kevin. The dealer WILL NOT know the vin until after production. Good luck.

That's exactly right. Dealers don't get the VIN until the car is built. Kevin has it 7 to 10 days before the car goes on the line.

VIN is part of the scheduling process - vehicles are built in VIN order so this number gets put together as the "parts" order goes to vendors but isn't set, I believe, until this is all scheduled along with parts arrival and sequencing. Material management must be a wonder.

True....

And in my state, you must show a copy of the title to order your custom plates, so that even adds more delay.

Do what I did. Order your custom plate against another one of your cars and then transfer when you get your 'vette.

So does it normally take that long to take delivery after it comes off of the line?
