New, better, or bigger batteries just have that much extra capacity to allow it to live through the drain, but still start the car.
Hea Hoonose,
Every time a battery dies it loses like 15-20% of it’s CCA capability. That being said, your 675 CCA Batt is now down to 430 or so after 2 charges. Get a new one before the winter.

After its 3rd death, my dealer did some testing, and said the max output was still intact. But, maybe that's BS, or not even the same thing. Anyway, I replace batteries every other year, regardless, because of the heat. Winter, per se, is rarely seen in these parts. We've had only one 'hard' freeze since 1980.

Go to the Tech Board with this. I'm certain they are feeding you a line of crap.

Probably, but I've had no trouble for quite a while now. When I sit in the car, radio on, motor NOT running, I get 11.9 volts on the DIC. This sounds close enough for normal?

With the car running, you should see something in the range of 14.2 to 14.8 volts. That's the alternator doing its thing. With the engine not running, and the battery freshly charged (car has run for at least half an hour), you should see 13.8 volts with a light load on the battery. With a heavier load, say headlights on, it should drop to around 12.5 volts in about 5 minutes. The battery is still in good shape at this point, over 95% capacity remaining.

At 11.9 volts the battery is getting into the region where some car electronics will start to act funky. Headlights on for about half an hour should get the stock capacity battery to this point. At 11.0 volts, car electronics will definitely start acting funky. It'll probably still crank the car, but there's not much reserve left.

10.5 volts should be considered fully discharged for a starting battery. If terminal voltage drops below 10.5, the battery will experience a permanent reduction in capacity. So you don't ever want the battery to drop below 10.5 volts.

So with all that in mind, I'd say that seeing 11.9 volts from what should be a freshly charged battery is not a good sign at all. Sounds like a battery well on its way to going south. *But*, I'll caveat that by saying the voltages I've listed are those present at the battery terminals. If you have a high resistance ground somewhere in the circuit, the reading at the DIC may well be lower.

So check the voltage directly at the battery terminals with a multimeter and note if it is different from the voltage reported by the DIC. If it is more than a couple of tenths different, start looking for a high resistance ground problem. Otherwise, start shopping for a new battery.
