Ok here is the deal. My buddy is an adrenalin junkie. If you remember the main vilian in the movie Point Break "Patrick Swazi". The guy that was the Sky Diver, Surfer, Bank Robber thrill seeker. Than you get the point about my good friend. Put it this way he has jumped out of a plane over 1000 times.
Anyway he is not a huge car guy. But for thrills only he went out and leased a 2002 Porsche Turbo. It had 7000 miles on it and now only 8 months later has about 10,000. He leased it for 2 years. Well he has been a total idiot in this car. Probably 6 near death experiences and endangering himself and Joe public. He knows he just does not have the make up to drive a car like that normally. So he wants to get rid of it. Before he hurts someone. I know sad.
Last night he offered me to take over his payments "for 16 months". With a kicker that I only pay the equivalent to what my " 36 month" lease is gonna be on my new Z51 Victory Red Convertible that is set to arrive in a week or so.
He put down $10,000 and is paying about $1600 a month for 24 months. I could get it for the last 16 months for around $1000 a month. Then buy it at the end of the lease for $68,000. Or walk and maybe buy a Z06 or a vert at that time.
I actually drove the car home from San Diego last night and the it is freakin amazing. But then again I have been waiting since March for my new Vert and it seems crazy to do this at the 11th hour. But then again the Porsche new is around $115,000 plus! This might be my only shot to drive a car like that and it is in perfect condition.
Ok so what would you do???? I need to make up my mind by tomorrow. Oh he is delaying my first payment to him to make up for the deposit I might lose "$1000".

My brother has a 2003 Turbo and it is a great car. I think it is all about personal preference. I have the Z51 and love it. Personally, I prefer convertibles. You really can't go wrong with either car.
As much as I love Corvettes (have a C5 with a VR C6 Z51 on order), if I could get a 911 Turbo, even a slightly used one, for the same price, that would be the way I'd go...barely.
So if the lease payment on the 911 is $1600 and you'd only have to pay $1000 who pays the remainder? Your friend? Personally, I'd never put myself in a vulnerable position like that.
In addition, although you state that the Porsche is in "perfect condition", it's already had two "owners", at least one of whom has admittedly driven it like an idiot.
It sounds to me like your friend is desparate to unload the car. I wouldn't touch it.

As much as I like Corvette's, I like them even more when compared to Porsche's.....Porche's are UGLY & OVER-PRICED!!!!

Very good points.
But this is not about money. He makes about $500,000 plus a year and I was in San Diego seeing him because he is a client of mine too and invested $75,000 with me last night. He is also a best friend since we were 3 years old. "next door neigbors" Yes he would pick up the difference in payment.
But the driven hard scenerio is a very valid point.

Great opportunity but that kind of an arrangement would make me say "get the Vette",plus its a Vert.
Something tells me that if you get the Porsche you will be happy with it for a short while...then you are going to start seeing more and more C6's on the road and wish you'd of stuck with the C6 you ordered. I am biased though, I have never liked Porsche, never liked the looks of any of the cars..remind of me of a glorified Volkswagon.
Hmm let's see. Vette, 400 horsepower, rear wheel drive, nice car. Porsche Turbo, 415 horsepower(Base Model), Viscous all wheel drive, Twin turbo charged. Both cars having the same monthly payment, I'd take the Porsche. It's been driven hard, everybody yells. You think they didn't design it to be driven hard? It's not a friggin Buick. Get stuck in a rain storm, no problem just floor it. Try that in our Vette. I like them both, but I'm also an all wheel drive guy and I love anything Turbo'ed. Porsche Turbo in five years, still doing pretty well in the value department. Vette in five years, well a high school kid will be able to afford it.

Also good points. I will say I think the Vert stands out over the Turbo to most people. It is an attention grabber!
Those that really know about sports cars in general would probably take extra special notice of the Turbo and also still very much appreciate the C6.
Believe me I have been eating, breathing, dreaming of the C6 since March and even before. I love C6 awesome car and very striking lines. But the offer is too interesting to just dismiss and not consider.
Let me preface this by saying that I (personally) have never seen a street Porsche that I would want to be sitting inside (CGT included)::
It is, indeed, an interesting delima; the money argument is partially compelling but it is still a rear engined car with all the misterious handling idiosyncarcies of a rear engined car, most have been engineered away (Wiesach link notwithstanding).
The argument that it has been run hard is not a compelling argument against it, as it apprears to have held up well to this kind of 'use'.
But the question come back around to:: Which car pushes you buttons? The Vette or the Porsche? For me the answer would be simple (see the prefaced disclaimer)! But it is your decesion!

Yeah I would say the Porsche has never been a show stopper for me. Not until I really learned about their true performance did I start to take notice. But more on that aspect alone. Never on the styling so much. I have always looked at the interior, guages etc as pretty plane. Nice, maybe classy, but also plane.
As far as the outside styling that really appeals to me is more like a Ferrari. "my last performance car was an Acura NSX" Which is a reason I really like the C6. The front end is a thing of beauty! Also the Convertible is very appealing in SoCal in the summer time.
I am leaning hard too the Vert. I am going to spend the afternoon in the Porsche and decide for sure.
I will say one thing there is no way in hell the Turbo is worth twice as much as the Vert though. If it wasn't the nature of this unique deral I would not come close considering the Turbe for Twice the price!!
