I am looking for a floor jack to use on my C6 for wheel removal etc. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands and where to buy? Thanks in advance! Gary
I picked up a couple for $69 at Pep Boys (autozone also sells them I think)...Big Red Jack Alum racing jack...1/5 ton, 3.5" height (to 13" I think) very light and work pretty well (skeptical for so cheap).
The ones at Pep Boys for $69.99 will work but the craftsman product is much better made and has the rapid pump feature. If you are going to be using jacking blocks (you should) then make sure the jack will fit under with those in there (both the pep boys and craftsman do).
I bought an all aluminum low-profile racing jack at Freight Outlet (?) for $119 and I use it on my lowered C6. I have the BMW jacking pads installed on the car (they snap in and you leave them in all the time).
If you are looking for a good ALL alumininum make sure you get that. Alot of these jacks are a combonation of alluminum and steel.
If you want a small Craftsman 2 1/2 ton jack with two stands, this mornings paper in SoCal has one listed on a special sale price in the Sears insert. ONLY $27 for the three piece set !!!!!

I have this jack excellent quality
Aluminum racing jack lifts 3000 lbs. to a maximum height of 14-3/4". Made out of machined, high strength,aircraft aluminum billet material. Has 4-5/8" wide, single front roller wheel with a low profile 3" minimum saddle height. Saddle has a 360° rotating rubber pad.
* Minimum saddle height: 3''
* Handle overall length: 35-1/2''
* Two piece knurled aluminum handle prevents slipping
* Overall dimensions: 19-3/4"L x 9-3/8" W x 8" H
* Tool weight: 24.2 lbs. $79.99

Top quality and matching aluminum jackstands available too. I love mine.
In fact sears has both of their aluminum low profile jacks on sale starting this weekend 14 May, one is $99 and the other is $199. the difference is in the rated capacity...
I just picked up a set from Sears this week. It is rated at 2 1/4 tons, with jack and 2 stands, cost $50. I believe it is aluminum, but may be steel; not low profile. It seems although there has to be 6 in of clearance under the car. This should work, right? Any reason to spend more? I am a hobbiest, just getting into doing my own work, and can't imagine I'll be lifting it very often at all.
Finally, what do you use to put btw the jack stands and the car? Where do you get pads?
Some people also have gotten some BMW pads for about $8/each. The BMW ones are good because they are thin and you can reportedly snap them in and leave them in place while driving.
I see where some are buying two jacks. Do you use them to jack up the front (one each side) and/or one side of the C6 (one side front and same side rear)? I personally am leary of jacking the C6 with only one jack (body twist). C6 jack pucks are a given. So far I
have only used modified ramps (2x12 planks added for air dam clearance).

All you need is 1 jack and some jack stands, NEVER trust a jack alone

Yep, I should have included the stands, I always use them. My question was directed at the initial single point lift, the front or back of either side. Don't mind doing it on my Monte Carlo, but feel the C6 deserves better. Maybe I'm too used to how it was on my 88 Fiero where the jack point was in the middle so you could lift both wheels off the ground at the same time with one jack (and stand).
I would never lift it at one point only. Two jacks, one on each side to lift the front for oil changes and if they are the rapid pump type, you're only switching sides three times to lift fairly evenly. Probably overkill but since no jack ever made can reach the lifting points shown in the manual, better safe and than sorry.
