Full throttle??
"But Captain..., she's gotta' have 500 miles on er'." "I'm aware of that Mr Scott, I said full power NOW!"
Way too funny!
So ive been told that 500 miles is the break in period. But after 500, how often am i allowed to really push the vette? Should I be conservative? Does it hurt the vette?[/QUOTE
I tried to keep it under 4,000 RPM for the first 500 miles, and under 5,000 RPM for the first 1,000 miles. After that, I would use full throttle briefly. Changed the oil and filter at 1,300 and then had no hesitation using all the revs whenever appropriate. Noticed a definite improvement in fuel mileage and (M6) transmission smoothness as it turned 2,000 miles. Will change oil again at 5,000. FYI, the elves in Stuttgart mandate nothing over 4,200 revs for the first 2,000 miles and if you exceed that and have relatives in Germany, you may be very sorry. I didn't follow orders in my 996, drove the **** out of it from day one and didn't change the oil for 15 months (it was not my daily driver). Kept it for 4 years and it never missed a beat. Current owner has had it for 2 years and changes the oil once a year or so with absolutely no problems, so go figure....
