It's quite likely that the added $1250 for the 6-spd auto tranny will convince some on the fence to go with the manual tranny. There's probably not going to be enough difference in performance or gas mileage to convince some to put up the extra bucks when they've been used to getting whichever tranny they wanted "free."
If you want to save a little gas mpg and like smoother shifts get the A6 if you want speed increase it DOESNT MATTER BOTH THE A6 AND A4 3:15 HAVE IDENTICAL 0-60 and 1/4 times. WAIT FOR MORE HORSE POWER AND TOURQE IN THE ENGINE THEN WE WONT HAVE TO HAVE THIS DEBATE THE POINT WILL BE MUTE!!!!
My wife has been driving our '05 BLK A4 since April and we both love the car. Now have 5,000. miles on it with only the fuel sending unit problem-which is now repaired.
Picked up my '06 MR A6 Z51 vert last weekend and today hit 500 miles.
Had a dry-straight stretch of road to test out the car today-The A6 is a significant improvement over the A4. The car shifts much quicker in the S mode without the use of the paddle shifter-at full throttle it shifts at 6300 RPM. I had a modified C5 with a 6 speed which could keep up with stock C5 405hp Z06s at the track. This new A6 feels stonger to me than my C5.
All in all the A6 is great and I am 110% happy with the preformance.
Now, doesn't BMW have a tranny that virtually does not shift, or at least you can't feel it. How many speeds is it?
If Corvette had similar this silly debate would be history...

Does the 05 A4 have 2:73 gears or 3:15, I had both and it is a big difference of the start and fun factor with the 3:15.

Not only that, but the point will be MOOT as well.
Just leave it to the Geniuses at GM to pull a stunt like that. It's not fair to the owners of the C6 A4. GM should have launched the Auto 6/paddle with the 2005 C6 from the get go and not with the 2006 C6.
Well I think you and your wife should have a race to see which ones faster, sounds to me like you need two A'6s. Enjoy your rides and someday I hope Im as lucky as you to have TWO,2,DOS, C6 corvettes to compare!

Well some buy RVs, boats, Harleys, etc etc. We have 2 C6s and a C2.
Keeps me from retiring.
If you want to shift your car manually, buy a stick. If you want it to shift itself, buy an auto. I'm gonna laugh when these fany schmancy 6 spd autos come out and people start to bitch because they are to heavy or don't shift fast enough or shift to firm causing them to spill their latte. And I know that there will be people out there who complain about this stuff. Personally, I think this damn thing is way to over complicated and I don't think it's gonna handle an big increase in power without an upgrade shortly afterwards. Not to mention the cost that's gonna be associated with rebuilding a 6spd auto. Half the fun of shifting the gears yourself, at least in my opinion, is playing with the clutch. There's nothing more exciting than dumping the clutch at 3000rpm and having all 400 or so HP slinging you back in your seat and then grabbing second and having the tires spin and launch you even harder. It's all so violent and invigorating. I think people just need to learn that more is not always better.
