New Painting Process at the Plant for 06?
I saw a thread a while ago about a "new" painting process/automation being installed at the Corvette plant during the 2 week shut down. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what was changed?
Thanks!
Thanks!

New painting Process true!
We were down at the factory in June and our Guide pointed out the new addition (under construction at the time) was for a new painting process. We were told that the welded frames are currently dipped in a lead based paint and the EPA will no longer allow lead in any paint so GM will be spraying the frames instead.
I guess it will now be safe to chew on the frames???

From NCM News Letter
Many improvements were made to the Corvette Plant during their shutdown. Construction crews, contract employees, and engineers were hard at work updating some of the equipment and machinery in the plant.
The biggest project that was completed was ELPO (Electro Deposition). This is the new system that replaced the old dip prime for the frame of the cars. Construction on ELPO began at the end of January and is already complete. Prior to downtime, 16 validation builds were run through ELPO to make sure everything was working properly. Over shutdown the old dip prime was demolished and taken out, and conveyors were rerouted and permanently tied into ELPO. Now, 100 percent of the jobs are run through the new system. Many more projects were completed in paint and will help improve the overall quality of the paint jobs.
