The screen doesn't seem to allow you to skip to the next song....
Took me a while to figure it out on my Grand Prix - the only way to skip songs is with the steering wheel controls. On the GP it's the up & down arrows on the far left
Thanks for the info... I have more questions: What do you see on the SRC screen of the Nav with this XM module in place? Does the unit detect this aftermarket XM module and display a source for it on the touch screen? No reprogramming or setup changes required? How did you know to fashion this jumper?
I'm sorry for not seeing this post sooner. My screen looks and functions exactly as a factory one that came with XM. As far as the jumper is concerned, I had some "inside" info from a person I believe had something to do with the design of the Nav System. He made me promise not to give out his name or number. If you plan on adding this read my post all the way through first. There has been added some new info. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1087750

The C6 doesn't have any steering wheel controls, so the skip feature is not available. I was just happy to find that MP3's will play!
I called guaranteed chevy in southern california today to see if they
have the new nav update. he came back and told me that he will have to order it and the cost will be 550.00 cant believe this... why is it so hight I thought it was to be 350 or so.
i read a post that said an mp3 cd holds 250 songs? where and how do you do this as i am eager to see if my c6 will play those types of cd's
See my post #78 above.
I use Easy CD Creator to burn MP3 songs off my computer onto a CD. You can use any other burner as well, like Nero. I can fit about 300 of my MP3 tunes on a CD, your results may differ. If your C6 was built late in the model production, it will play MP3's.
I took delivery of my coupe in late August and haven't tried to play a MP3 yet but I was under the impression that I could. Is there a build date for which cars may have the upgrade already incorporated or are all 2005s in need of the upgrade?
Does anyone have more info on the direct iPod connection or can point me somewhere? If i had a direct input for the iPod I wouldn't bother with burning MP3s anyway... Any thoughts?
I saw a thing at Best Buy the other day that plugs directly into the OBDII port for most GM vehicles. It listed all the C5 Corvettes but no C6 models. I don't know if it works for the C6's but would be worth a shot. Its also pretty expensive.
Thank you Strangebob for that reply, as it answered my ? as well. I can't burn CDs on this computer anymore (long story and too cheap to buy a new one yet). So, can I buy an MP3 already burned somewhere?
I don't remember the exact date, but the month and year of build on Vapour is July 2005, so I guess that's late build? Doesn't production year usually begin in August for most cars? Thanks!
MP3 isn't a type of song, it's a compressed size. On a regular music CD you can only fit 20-30 songs, but lots more in MP3 format. Google for it and you can read up on it.
Usually MP3's are done on the computer, not at the music store. So you might want to get a new computer to do this. You can convert songs from your regular CD's to MP3 format in your computer using conversion software - available on the net. Some of this software is free, and some isn't. Check zdnet.com or browse for "convert cda-mp3". You can also download MP3 format songs off the net in various ways.
Dealer Parts said they could get me the upgrade...
I was at the Dealership today to pick up my spare seat belt I ordered for my C6 so I could cut off the buckle part and insert it in my cars seat belt receptacle. $132 and now finally peace! No more punishment bongs for me!
I know some of you will express disapproval, but I did get the suggestion from here when I was looking for an answer on how to disable the punishment system. My 2005 Ford 250 explains right in the owner's manually how to disable the Gong system, but I guess Chevy assumes we're all babies and have to be punished into wearing our seat belts.
So while I was at the parts counter I asked about a Nav upgrade DVD. It was looked up and reported to me that I could have it for $500 and change. And then one of the parts guys said I should try to find it on "Napster".
If so, is there any reason to assume a software update will change things?
The code changed from U3U to URB in mid-year, I think this was at the same time as the price increase (from $1400 to $1600). This took place sometime between (as I recall) Feburary or March when I first priced out my car and May when I ordered it. There are no differences that I know of or could find out about at the time. But I'd think that if there was a difference, the later model (URB) would support MP3s.

Just the opposite is true. There were so many issues early on in the 2005 production year with MP3 capability that the RPO U3U was dropped and replaced with URB option which distinctly omitted MP3 capability in it's description. Brochures available at the dealer may still have indicated NAV/MP3 but there is also a disclaimer to indicate that the information was accurate at the time of printing and subject to change without notice. It was up to the dealers to advise their customers.

Thanks - that explains some of the mystery. Do you know if there was any difference between the U3U and URB except for firmware? I think they look the same from the front.

Now for the bad news. I have reason to believe that the URB unit has a faster processor inside so that they can process MP3's. This would mean that the earlier U3U will never be able to play MP3's.
My 2005 has URB, came with the newer DVD nav disc, and the door sticker shows a date of 08/05.
About a third of my MP3 discs are on green faced discs. The other two thirds are on gold color faced discs. I have tried several green discs and none of them would play in my car. I tried several of the gold colored discs, and all but one worked just fine. The one gold disc that failed was a Kodak brand. The ones that worked were an off brand.
I also noticed that there does not seem to be a lot of buffer in the memory. If you seek up or down many tracks at a time it slows down alot. I did a lot of seeking, pausing, opening the screen, and other commands in rapid succession and it appeared to lock up. Perhaps it would have come around if I gave it enough time, I just don't know. Sometimes even after it finds the song I selected, you can hear the disc drive going crazy. A strong dose of volume takes care of that.
If you think that you have the latest hardware and software and it doesn't play your MP3s, you might want to go buy some different discs and do some experimenting.

hmm...mine's a URB, came with version 1.0 and does not play MP3's...
