GM Told them that THERE IS A NAV update FOR the 05s and it will be shipped in the form of a DVD to the dealer!!!!!!!
They will have it the end of OCT and it will fix the static FM Problem and also make the unit capible of playing MP3 Cds !!!
For those of you waitng and following the manny nav threads over the past 6 months !!!!!!
I will keep you posted and my guy is going to call me the minute he has the disk in hand !!!!!
Also he mentioned something about having to unplug something to the main ECM module when they run the update disk so it will not reprogram the Computer
I hope this is an easy upgrade and not something that will cause other problems!!!
This is why he said GM has taken so long to release it !

I must have missed the beginning of this: why the updates to the nav in the first place? Are you talking about music or navigtion here?
And, how do I ask/request the dealer to do this "update?"
Thanks,
Sal

The 05 nav systems have a problem with the static in the backround on the fm channells.
The current fix is to toggle from fm to am and back EVERY time you start the car
Also the 05 NAV systems do not play mp3 encoded cd roms as advertised!! ( Problem with software compression codec)
These items are now fixed and will be available next moth via a disk update from the dealer !
Great news! Thanks for the update Like you were saying though, I definitely hope that this doesn't cause other issues. I would be surprised if it actually had a connection to the ECU though, considering that the head unit isn't a vehicle information unit. Perhaps it routes through the car's computer for the integration with the HUD. I guess we'll find out though
Hum either the update is to resolve warranty issues or to add non advertised functionality. They cant fix warranty issue AND charge you for it. As for me, Ill wait till I see it. I have a feeling this topic will get as convoluted as to "what will be changed for the 06!"
DVD burner to the rescue? I need to see if I can make a backup of the one I have now.
The nav disk is almost 9 gig !
Also i would remove the part about copying anything around here in your post
in the past alot of people have caused greif about copying COPYRIGHTED material!!!
DVD burner to the rescue? I need to see if I can make a spare copy of the one I have now.
If one wants to make a backup copy for their own use, you need a DVD writer with DL capability and a DL blank media. The DVD provided by GM is 7Gb+ and there is no problem fitting in on the 8.4Gbs blank media.

Watch what you say:
#1: many of us with NAV have had no problem with the FM static thingy.
#2: It was clear in advertising that the NAV unit COULD NOT play MP3 files. It's in the corvette brochure and the corvette website. If the dealer told you otherwise, remember, he's a stupid salesman that has to keep up with the options on a bunch of cars.
This little upgrade will make life very nice for us MP3 lovers, but I am still installing the module to connect my iPod Nano directly to the back of the head unit. Me thinks me iPod Rocks!!!
pls,
the NAV system is really not too bad to use, you should get used to it quickly. I think that it is head over heels better than Hertz's Neverlost system.
Even microsoft give you free updates to windows, etc...
That's because the original program is so full of bugs they have to give freebies to keep everyone hanging around until they can sell the next program that is full of bugs
I am looking forward to the mp3 capability, but I don't have the other problems (yet!)
A nav data upgrade would be nice, as the data is pretty outdated in my rural areas...but will the upgrade really upgrade the data for my travel areas??
I may want to look at an 06 or a nav with the upgraded data to decide if it would be worth my money.
Maybe it was clear to you, but my salesman gave me GM documentation which said in clear language that the Nav single-CD changer would play MP3s. I still have the early guidance provided to sales offices by GM.
I ordered the car in Aug 04 and there were no manuals around to read. Maybe you were a little later in purchasing yours and had better information but be careful who you accuse of overlooking available information.
I have a portable Nav unit I used in my '99 and I told the salesman I hated to give up the 6-disc changer (had a 12-disc changer in my '99) just for the Nav unit. He pointed out the MP3 capability in effect made up for about a 10-disc capability. He gave me the paperwork to indicate that the Nav system supported MP3s so I ordered the Nav unit.
Needless to say, I was more than irritated with the final result. Of course I could have turned down the car I ordered and waited another few months to get one without Nav. Not acceptable, and I do expect the upgrade to be free if/when available.
