#1: many of us with NAV have had no problem with the FM static thingy.
#2: It was clear in advertising that the NAV unit COULD NOT play MP3 files. It's in the corvette brochure and the corvette website. If the dealer told you otherwise, remember, he's a stupid salesman that has to keep up with the options on a bunch of cars.
This little upgrade will make life very nice for us MP3 lovers, but I am still installing the module to connect my iPod Nano directly to the back of the head unit. Me thinks me iPod Rocks!!!
pls,
the NAV system is really not too bad to use, you should get used to it quickly. I think that it is head over heels better than Hertz's Neverlost system.
I also have a printout from aug o4 stating that mp3s would play !

Can you give me more information on the module you are talking about? I would be interested too!
Also, does anyone know if this update will improve usability as far as adding the ability to scroll through preset stations (maybe with the seek control)? It's a real pain that we can't do that.
If one wants to make a backup copy for their own use, you need a DVD writer with DL capability and a DL blank media. The DVD provided by GM is 7Gb+ and there is no problem fitting in on the 8.4Gbs blank media.
I tried to copy mind tonight and everything went fine until I found out that all my blank DVDs are single layer 4.7GB. The copy was a little over 7.5 GBs. The disk format appears to be a standard ISO.
It will be nice to be able to make a spare copy in case my vette gets stolen with the original disc in the NAV
Also he mentioned something about having to unplug something to the main ECM module when they run the update disk so it will not reprogram the Computer
Oh goody. Sounds like a simple firmware type upgrade until you get to the part where you have to take the dash apart to unplug a connector that probably is embedded inside the steering column. That oughta be fun!
Think some people here are confusing map updates with NAV/Radio software updates. I think the initial post was about NAV/Radio software update to fix problems. The many GB DVD people starting talking about is a map update which is new DATA for the NAV system with the DVD that stays in they NAV.
My BMW's have the NAV and every once in a while the system software would be upgraded (process put the dvd or cd in the NAV, and it would boot up like a computer and upgrade the software). Not the same as the MAP stuff.
I would think that dealers/GM wouldn't provide copies of the software to people to do their own thing,
I've had a chance to look over all the postings regarding the NAV problems. So, does anyone know if this update to the 05's means that the probs have been fixed with the 06's?

I think you're right. Their is some confusion. I am interested in a new navigation map update.
I have no problems with my audio system, except:
I am one of those, who cancelled their XM radio option to avoid the external wart antenna. We have a Roady II XM, that works great.
However, I would love to have XM built into the audio system itself. It is my understanding, that the XM radio option is nothing more than a plug-in module to the existing audio system (1SB package). If that's the case, I would love to get it. I place the little XM antenna of the Roday II on the dashboard and it works great.
Anyone have any information on back-fitting the 05' audio system with XM?

Was able to make a backup of my original DVD using a double layer DVD drive.
Just got my DSOM Coupe last week! What an improvement over my Y2K Z51 C5!!! Dealer did not know anything about a DVD update to the NAV system which would enable MP3 recognition. Service advisor referred me to GM Customer Service. The fellow at GM I spoke to said the NAV radio in the 05 C6 will not play MP3's. I told him about this thread on the forum and he said he'd do more research and call me back. I'll let everybody know what response I get from GM.
GM Told them that THERE IS A NAV update FOR the 05s and it will be shipped in the form of a DVD to the dealer!!!!!!!
They will have it the end of OCT and it will fix the static FM Problem and also make the unit capible of playing MP3 Cds !!!
I have tortured GM Customer Service; they have "researched" this and say no update is coming...this response is based on the fact that changes this late in the model year are very rare. I finally gave up when this post originated. I have emailed them links indicating a change is forthcoming, nothing will convince these corporate monkeys to find the source of the rumors.
So, what is the name of the person at the dealership that says an upgrade is coming in October? What is the name of the GM employee that has first hand knowledge of this upgrade? PLEASE SHARE THIS!!!
LOCAL DEALERS DON'T CARE, DON'T KNOW, WON'T RESEARCH, WON'T LIFT A FINGER TO GET AN ANSWER!!!
Pretty soon it won't be "BUY GM", it will be "WHY GM?"
