Default Question on Cags / Skip Shift

At 2XX miles I installed a CAGS Eliminator that took away the "Skip Shift 1-4" feature. Last Weekend at 2500 miles the Check Engine Light came on. I took it to my local GM Dealership this morning, and the only code showing is CAGS Malfunction. Does this mean that I did not receive the right CAGS Eliminator when I purchased it from Zips???

They re-set the computer, and it almost instantly came back on. Do I have to live with my Check Engine Light On???

Is anyone else having the same problem??

Thanks Forum for all the Help!!

Not sure where you bought your CAGS Eliminator from, but from what I've read here it is likely burnt out. That is why the car is throwing a code, it sees it as an open circuit, as if you just "unpluged" your CAGS. The eliminator is to fool the computer into thinking it is still there and working properly.

FWIW, I bought my CAGS from MidAmerica and it's been in for 8,000 miles with no problems.

Get a new CAGS and all should be well again....or learn to live with the light.

Why bother. I bought an 05 Vert with the 6speed about two months ago and rarely (like less than 5 times) has the 1st to 4th light come on. I ordered a cag but it is setting in the garage and I don't see the need to put in on.

Depends on your driving habits.....when I first got my C6 I hadn't owned a stick for about 10 years....first few days were fine...then it forced my shift once to often......No More CAGS for me....bought the eliminator from Mid America and have been smiling ever since!

The whole skip-shift feature is idiotic and has no place in a high-performance sports car.

2.2k ohm resister works just fine from Radio Shack. I think a pack of 5 cost 99 cents.

I have read this before and I'm sure it's quite accurate...but the "store bought" models also protect the two plug ends from getting wet, grimy and corroded.

Yes, this is why I feel it's worth the mere $20 or whatever for the kit. Makes for a nice neat clean installation and protects the plugs. Plus, if you ever have to remove the resistor and reconnect CAGs for troubleshooting purposes, it will come off nice and easy, no need to be peeling away electrical tape or cutting shrink tubing whatever. Just unplug and re-plug.
