I received an voice mail this morning with a part number and price for a possible map update.
Part number: 15779679
Price: $293.42
This was from a GM representative.
I have not been able to reach this person again to confirm. Nor, have I been able to confirm with a parts manager. It is not on the parts catalog online. This is not for the fix, but sounds like a map update...I am more interested in the fix first.....
Don't know what version, etc. Just a voice mail so far.
Let me know if anyone else can confirm this.
Thanks to the Corvette Forum for keeping everyone informed.
One thing that concerned me a lot is the fact that the DVD must be in the radio in order to use the NAV system. We all know how hot the interior of a car can get. Many of us may have had a few CD's go belly up because they were sitting in a hot car.
With only one DVD for my NAV system, outdated as it is, I still felt I needed to make a backup copy of the DVD. The DVD has close to 8GB on it so unless you have a Dual Layer burner in your PC, you won't be able to backup the entire contents on a disc you might make.
I have a Dual Layer drive in my computer and it was no problem at all simply making a backup of my original DVD. That original disk in now tucked away in my desk drawer for safe keeping. The backup I made stays in the car and it works perfectly.
There was a guy who posted how he read through all the files on the disk and detirmined what parts of the country the files were for. He then eliminated those files for the areas of the country that he thought he would never visit. He did this until he got the content down to about 4GB and then made a backup of those files. That will work but I suggest you buy or borrow a dual layer drive.
Any of you 2006 C6 owners with the updated DVD want to send me your disk so that I can make a backup copy for you?

What a rip off. The original was out dated when the Corvette was new and know they want $300 to correct it.
I agree, for the $1600 cost of the Nav system, there is no reason to charge for upgrades. They have to have the upgrades anyway for the new systems. I realize that they may have to pay some kind of license fee to whoever they buy the software from, but with GM's purchasing clout, I would think they could negotiate at least for free upgrades through the warranty period of the car. Heck, it's possible that a car sitting in inventory could outlast a software version.
What type and name of disk do you burn the copies on????
As for me using a dual layer drive, I used the Verbatim brand. They are DVD+R DL which means they are recordable dual layer with 8.5GB capacity.
Since consumer dual layer drives are fairly new at this time, you won't find a bunch of different brands of recordable DVD's out there. You'll just have to pick the brand that is available to you and go for it.
I took delivery of my C6 from the museum on May 16 and the Navigation System Map Disc has p/n 10381887. Alas, a map update! (or is it program update?)
F.Y.I. The part number you gave I believe is for the DVD manual only. Your DVD with the manual has a part number of 10381886. It appears that you have the same DVD that I got with my car built in Jan. '05.

Thanks, I found Fujifilm dual layer 8.5GB. Will find someone with a dual layer recorder(or buy one) and make myself a copy. Having a copy in the car is the way to go.

Verbatim worked for me, Memorex did not! Has anyone backed up a version 2.0 DVD? Did anyone ever figure out the Diag PIN?
I spoke with Tom Bannen Chevy this morning and gave them this part number 157779679. He could not find it in his system. But the Parts Guy called in the number through some phone system and there are 7 of these part numbers in the Ohio warehouse. He could not find out what it is today because of Saturday. But the list price is $293.42. Will try back on Monday and see what I can find out.

Wow. Very
I don't need a fix, I just want the map update. I'm going to e-mail Gene at Fred Beans. He is usually on top of new parts stuff. He is also great to do business with.

Yep. Just asking for people to do a "group purchase" if you know what I mean.
