i just got my bill of sale faxed to me and there was a title prep charge of 1589.00 is this normal?? damm its not a house then there was a document charge of 249.00 seems im getting hosed. anybody?? ray
Wasn't there a contract with all the charges itemized?...I'm pretty sure it's a legal requirement.
If the charge was not on a contract I signed, I would tell them to take a hike...Or, alternately, they could give my money back, and they could take their Corvette back, and everybody shakes hands and walks away. If the charge was on the contract, and you didn't read before signing......pay up!.

The dealer can add any type of "fee" he wants as long as it is clearly spelled out in the contract - if you sign it you agree and you are SOL... 1500 in any state is BS....
I live in CA and here are my exact fees:
$45 (Doc Preparation fee - NOT A GOVERNMENT FEE)
License Fees in CA (ESTIMATED) $415
He is trying to slip one past you... call other dealers in your state and ask them what they charge for documentation fees if you arent sure.. most honest dealers will tell you
And I hope you didnt sign the contract yet - if you did well then think of it as a learning experience most of us have gone through one way or another at some point in our lives
If you haven't signed the contract yet, don't. If it's too late, then take it to the manager or even the owner and start begging for a reduced fee. Under $150 is the going rate. I paid $45.00 and still not too happy.
