I have heard it is not, mainly b/c the shroud is also different. Different shape. However, if you hear differently, I'd like to know. The air bag would have to be moved or a new one purchased - could get unreasonably expensive.

How about 06 HVAC *****?

Actually I like the 05 model better, looks nicer also. With the 06, its shaped like a tee. When I'm cruising I always hold my one hand at the center bottom of the wheel, just a comfort thing for me. I can't do that with the 06.
I still don't understand 05 owners wanting to put 06 parts on their stock vette???

I like a four spoke myself. The attraction of the 06 wheel for me would be that it is smaller. Its not on my list.

Its no different than putting on aftermarket parts but these just happen to be from GM and the same car but for a different year... I for one like the new ***** for radio/climate control much better than the 05 -

If the ***** are the same size it should be a easy and inexpensive mod which can easily be put back to stock... gona go search to see if they ***** are in fact the same size and interchangeable

I too prefer to drive with one hand at the bottom,It seems so natural.I have always liked the doughboy steering wheel but some people just love to bitch and they changed it.Those same people will probably find fault with this one also.

I was absolutely positive that I would change out my 05 wheel for an 06. But now that I've seen both the 05 looks fine and the cost would not be worth it for my taste.

I'll take the 05 steering wheel over the Astro Star van 06 wheel anyday.

I won't change mine because to me its not worth it but the 06' wheel is smaller and cleaner.Personally I think its a great improvement.

The smaller wheel would be the only advantage. How many other vehicles have the dough boy wheel? Then think about how many have the 3 spoke wheel. That makes it kind of unique.

Also (as has been mentioned by others on this site) it's the same wheel as is used in a number of (lower end) GM models....like the '05 myself

I would not be the least bit surprised if the newer wheel cost less also. When you consider that they put it in a lot more vehicles than the 05 wheel the cost difference could be high. The master plan at GM is to use as many parts as they can between vehicles. The LS2 engine is already available in a few other vehicles. Likewise the NAV system. And we all know that we don't have any custom paint colors even though they charge us more for a few of them. With the steering wheel being used all over the seats can't be far behind.

It is so great that we now have all of your opinions on which wheel is better and why ....... So do any of you have a real contribution to this thread such as does the new wheel fit without issue? New airbag necessary? Cost of the new wheel/airbag? It is great you like your steering wheel so much, I for one think it is way to big.
