Default Solid roof purchase-problems?

I am exploring the possibility of purchasing a solid roof from another CF member. His roof is a late in the MY construct. We don't think it has the delaminating problem but wonder if anyone can give us some clues as to what to look for? I.E. are there any clues that can be seen to let us know if his roof may have the issue?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know about the technical roof stuff, but I would have concerns about warranty coverage for the roof when you buy it. Since you didn't buy the whole car, but just a piece, would the warranty transfer? Certainly the warranty for your car wouldn't attach to the roof. If the guy you buy from hits 36/36 before you do, or sells the rest of the car to someone else, etc. My head is spinning just thinking about this stuff. If there weren't for the delamination problem, I wouldn't raise the issue.

AFAIK if you buy a part from some other owner (not dealer) that part has no warranty from GM regardless of how much remaining warranty is on the "donor" car. If you buy it from GM (through a dealer) that part has a special warranty from GM apart from your normal warranty. Now my head hurts too...

My roof started to come apart one very hot July day. It was sitting in a parking lot for about an hour and when I returned the back of the top was bulging right across from the XM antenna. It was also making a lot of groans, pops and cracks while driving. My VIN is 15215 and the car is LMB. My replacement however seems to be rock solid, very quiet and painted at least good enough to satisfy me. Good luck, I haven't heard any definitive information regarding a range of effected VIN's.--e

I traded my Lexan roof for another members Arctic White roof.

No leaks and the fit was extremely tight. I was told that each roof is fitted from the factory to each specific vehicle.

My new roof had so many creaks, groans and rattles..............which my Lexan NEVER had......I never even took it off in 8 months.......

Good luck on your purchase. BTW, each top has over 10 different adjustments which can be done to it, some of which require removal of interior parts and visors.............

Default Roof "pops"

I've got about 9K miles on the car and lately at slow speeds there is a popping sound that seems to be coming from the roof. Any one else getting a poping sound?
