Returning from a week vacation my C6 would not start. The Battery was completly drained. After a jump start everything seems to be okay. Dealer informed me that if not shifted into reverse that this would drain the battery. Is this true? Has anyone else had a similar problem? I hope that it is so simple. Any advice? Thanks
Yes its true, assuming you have a manual tranny and a 2005 model. Do a search on DBS (Dead Battery Syndrome) and you will have reading material for a week!
Leave it for a week and if its not in reverse it will be as dead as a doornail when you return if it is a Manual '05.
NOTE
Best as we can figure out 2-3 days is the time frame of DBS. Assuming your parked right if you get over the 3 day thing your car is ok for at least a month. I check to see if the LED by the radio is flashing, if it is your ok (only applies if you do not have NAV.)
If you have a 2005 C6 with a manual transmission and your dealer didn't tell you to leave it in reverse, he's one of the worst dealers you could possibly have. Please tell us what year C6 you have and if it's a 2005, tell us why you didn't hear the warning tones from the car when you didn't leave it in reverse.
First of all, do you have a 2005 or 2006 vehicle? The 2005 can not shut down completely if it is not put into reverse when you turn the car off. This is discussed at length in the manual and the car comes with a "Shift To Reverse" warning tag on the shift lever when delivered. Also, as already mentioned, the DIC will scroll a warning and the warning chimes will sound if you forget to do this. So, did you neglect to put the car in reverse when you shut it down? It seems to me, that if this was really something you were not aware of, your battery would have died the first day you owned the car. This makes no sense to me at all.
If, on the other hand, you have a 2006 C6, there is no need to use the shutdown in reverse protocol and you have the first case of a dead battery in a 2006 car that we've seen. This also makes no sense to me.
I guess we need some clarification and details before anyone can really offer anything constructive here.
Much like my 2001 Porsche, these new cars put a constant drain on your battery, running computers etc. My Porsche would not last 7 days ( and are not supposed to) without either using the car, or keeping a Battery Tender connected to the car. I had one that just plugged into the cigar lighter. I do the same for my 2005 Corvette ragtop. When not in use, or not driving it in the forseeable future, just attatch a tender. Providing you do not have a real DBS problem, this should work out well. Ray

We still don't know if this is an 05 or 06. JayDee where are you?
