You can dowload a plugin to Windows Media Player that will rip them into MP3 for free from Microsoft's website. But, many other programs do it as well. You need to adjust the settings under options though.
I find that WMP is great for ripping the music, as it has acess to a great database to retrieve album and track info. I use Music Match from Yahoo to actually burn CD's as data disks, but it isn't anywhere near as good at recognizing album and rack info. I ended up manually doing it all the time. So know I Rip with WMP, and burn with Music match.
Funny thing is that when burned as data, my o5 Nav will play both WMA files and MP3. I've read that WMA is even a smaller compression than MP3, wich means that presumably one could fit even more songs than in MP3 format. Haven't had the time or wanted to expend the effort to find out though.
Copying files to CD using Windows explorer will probably use packet-writing mode, or at least multi-session (and leave the session open). You should use another CD burning program and make sure to use "Disk at Once" mode (DAO) which will close the session when complete. Be sure you are burning on CD-R, not CD-RW.
I haven't heard of anyone else having MP3 problems on the '06, so I suspect it's something with the way you burned the disc.
Burned 130 songs onto 1 disk using iTunes in mp3 format. Works like a charm in my 06 Nav unit.
Made a number of CD disks to copy all of my playlist then ripped to mps format with windows ripper then copied back to iTunes as mp3 songs. Then used MAC MP3 Gain to adjust gain levels to minimize need to change volume from song to song on the C6 system. A lot of work but worth it in the end.

I have done it in iTunes too ... I think the C6 has a 144 song limit or somthing because anytime I put more songs for my dad's car ... it does not work.
Hi all. I have done well on making mp3 with Itunes but we have tried everything and cannot figure out how to do folders to organize the songs better. Any ideas?

Just create a folder on your HD, move/copy the mp3 files there and then burn that folder onto a disk as data. You do not need iTunes for this once you have created your mp3s.
