I made an mp3 disk last night and the player didn't recognize it. Could someone who has been successful tell me what you used to make it, and the options you chose? I tried just writing to it through windows explorer. I have Nero if that's what I should be using. Thanks!
Mines a newer Sony CDRW-DVD... I would assume it should be good. What did you use to copy the mp3's to the disk?
Did you copy your MP3 files to the disc as data? You shouldn't use your CD copy software as if your are making a copy of a regular music CD. In other words, simply copy the MP3's straight over to your disc as if they files from your word processor.
Do you have to use Nero? I have an MP3 disk that worked fine in my '05 non-nav radio, but now will not work in my new '06 with the nav radio. I have tried several disks, and made new ones using folders, no folders, etc., and it will not recongnize the disk.
Are we sure that the '06 cars with nav will play MP3's? Can anyone confirm this? Mine is a Z06, number 333, so I assume it was built in Aug/Sept time frame.
You do not have to use Nero, you just have to be sure it is an mp3, not copy protected. I use Music Match. Besides, if it plays on in your '05, then it should play on your '06 IF it really does play mp3s. It sounds like it does not.

That's what worries me! But it does say in the owners manual that it plays MP3. Has anyone out there sucessfully played an MP3 on an '06 with Nav????

I have a 05 with Nav.
I used Music Match, ripped all my music as Mp3, and saved it as Data to the disc when burning. It takes a little getting used to using the program. This program also allowed me to save my WMA (Windows Media) saved files that were NOT mp3, and the system still played them. System read all music, folders, titles, everything!
Make sure you use no larger than a 700 MB disc.
Good luck!

This question keeps coming up every week. I don't think anything is out of control, just maybe not everyone is on the same page yet.
After owning my 2005 C6 for a month, I made an MP3 disk and tried it out, just for fun. Big shock when it turned out the unit plays MP3's even though it has the NAV and single-disc, and even though the manual says it won't.
I use Easy CD Creator 6 or Creator 8, and select "Make an MP3 disk" or "Make a Data Disk". Both work.
The solution is PROBABLY to use a burner that is compatible with ALL CD formats -R, +R, -RW, +RW. Some cheap burners aren't. The SONY's are - I have model DRU 710-A, and I think they're up to the 910-A by now. If you have done this and it still does not play, your unit may be an early version that didn't get upgraded.
Those of you with 05 Nav, send me a PM with your name and address and I will send you a CD using the method I have used that works in my 05 with Nav, and if it works in your Nav, then that will tell you if it is the unit or the way you are doing it :-).

I would greatly appreaciate that Greg.

Now if it doesnt work and I have an older NAV unit....can I go into GM and tell them the NAV just keeps freezing up and shutting off while driving and get a new unit put in?
Got me on that one. All I can say is that it works in mine, and my 05 with Nav was built in late August 05.
At least you will know if my CD works that it the Unit is not bad, and it's something you are doing.
I believe there is a combination of errors here.. probably a lot of user error combined with some bad GM units or info. From what I can tell on this often discussed subject, I'm not sure there is enough to say its all GM's fault.
