Default Need MP3 help

I just did the nav update to my C6 and it now plays MP3 files. This is really cool and very new to me. I spent the better part of last night trying to make a cd full of MP3 songs. I have no problem making the disc except the running order won't stay in the order I want it to play.

I put 7 albums on one cd! 99 songs! They sound great! Much better quality than the Xm radio. I cant get the songs running order to play the way I want with in each album folder. How do you guys do that?

I posted in the audio section as well. Here's that thread which will explain a bit more:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1553311536

I want my MP3 albums to play in the same order as the original Cd. Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

SB

I am posting this in C6 general because there several of us here who have just discovered the majic of MP3's thanks to the Nav update disc. Help us rookies out please!

I suspect it's an alphabetical thing. You could rename each song title with numbers, to play in the order you want.

e.g. 1 - firstsong.mp3
2 - secondsong.mp3
etc.

I hear that some of the id3 tag editors make this process easier, but I don't know the specifics.

You said you tried renaming the song titles with 01, 02 and so on. What works for me is renaming the file it's self starting with 01, 02 and so on.

My son has made several MP3 CDs for me. He seems to be very good at this. They have corect ID tags and everything. If I remember correctly, the software puts the tracks (songs) is alphabetical order by album, and there is nothing you can do about it. At least that seems to the the case with the software he used to burn our MP3s. May just be the way it is. It is not a big deal for me, as you always have direct access to any track on the CD.

If you name them with numbers only, you lose the titles.

They will list, burn and play in alphatical order. If you want them in a certain order you need to either fudge the names or add sequential numbers in front of the titles.

I'm saying rename the file starting with the number. Leave everything else there just put the number in front of it. When I say file I mean where it says blah blah blah.mp3. So you would change that to say
01 blah blah blah.mp3

If you use an iPod or something like it and you change the File name of a song, the next time you update it the player won't be able to find that song. You'll have to remove that song or songs and then add them back with it having the new file name.

Nothing like digital rights and copyright issues to make your day more complicated.
That's why I avoid these proprietary songfiles and gizmos.

It has nothing to do with copyrights. It's just the actual path to the data has changed so it can't find it.

Oh, I see.
But wouldn't the song show up as 1 - songtitle?

Thanks for the replies!

I did rename the songs by adding 01, 02, 03 in front of the song names. It works great up until double digit numbers come up. When 10, 11, 12 come up, they get recorded above 01, 02, 03. Very strange. When listing a file on a computer it will always come below, or after the 01-09. Not on my MP3 files. So then I thought I'd use letters instead. That would give me 26 chances for the disc to be in order. Nope! They line up in alphabetical order on the record list then when the disc is burned, it is random again. I can't for the life of me figure out a pattern to this. It's like trying to break a code!

I'm on my way to fry's to ask some questions. I must be missing something here.

I'm taking my car in for the software upgrade today. In anticipation of success, can anyone here tell me how to make an MP3 disc of tracks from existing CDs? I think I've figured out how to do it from downloaded MP3 files (using Limewire) but what I really want to do is go through my extensive CD collection and make a few compilation MP3 discs. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks.

Try leaving out the zeros on your numbering scheme.
Some CD burning programs will let you edit your song list and place the songs in the order that you want. I use Nero, but forget if you can do that with that program.

Did you try 3 number combinations instead of 2 Steve? Just a thought. I was going to try it tonight. 001 002 003

Download a free CD Ripper to make MP3's from the CD tracks.

Thanks, Gene. A couple of Qs...
  • Do you know of one that you recommend?
  • Will these downloads provide me with a means to "capture" the CD tracks and then convert them to MP3 files?
I'm a real dork when it comes to this stuff. I don't know how to go about getting the tracks from my CDs onto my computer for "ripping". Help!

I use bEncoder, but it's old.
Basically you tell it where your CD files are, how exact an MP3 copy you want, then where to put the MP3 output files.
These you will burn to a CD-R disk.

I tried as you suggested and it still doesn't work. I tried single, double and triple digits, even letters! Nothing puts the songs in the same order as the original cd. Very strange.

I bought a program at Fry's called MP3 Maker by Magix. Complete rip off. Makes me buy a $60 upgrade for anything to work. I called there customer support and they hung up on me.

There has to be a program that will allow you to select the track order for recording into MP3 format. I will find it!

That doesn't make sense.
When you view (on your PC) the CD that you made, are they already out of order?
Or maybe the player is using a different algorithm in playing them back?
It may be time to review the manual if it's the second.....

Try this:
1st song awhateversong.mp3
2nd song banothersong.mp3
3rd song cnextsong.mp3

I can't imagine that not working.
Look around for free rippers, I've never had to buy anything.
