On the 05' manual, you have to put the car in reverse before you turn the car off and get out or the accessories power will stay on and possibly run down you battery. Don't know why GM did it, but its sometimes a pain in the A**.
Be aware though on the ealier '05 VIN's (~3000 - 11300) there have been several "crank bolt failures", that is too say the bolt backs out, then so does the harmonic dampner/pully, then you loose power steering and spring a major oil leak to boot! It will be fixed under warranty, but not something you want to happen at all in the first place.
Also on early build cars there was a clutch issue where at high RPM's if the clutch has been known not to engage...ie: the pedal stays on the floor, also a warranty item.
what is meant by "beefed up rear end"? are we talking about the rear of the car because I didn't notice any difference . Or are we talking about tranny?. I have no clue.

Oh Great. I am picking up a used 2005 06 with a vin in that range. Should I cancel???

Specifically the rear differential, the '06's have been redone to improve strength....although the '05's I've heard that failed were being abused....the new version should hold up better!

You could ask the dealer/seller if the car has already suffered a failure or and/or if the "fix" has been done? It is "guesstimated" that the problem has/will only affect ~3 - 5% of those in the range...not bad odds untill it affects your car!
So I guess it depends on the deal you are getting, the less you pay maybe the more willing you will be to "take your chances"?
Personally I would still buy an '05, but I wouldn't pay top dollar for it.
Come on guys---don't worry about crank pulley failures in the vin range. They only puke once or twice but then you can take neato pictures of them being taken away.
