Default Need help with engine covers question

I want to paint my engine covers and I see that they just unsnap to take them out, but what is this hose and how do I take it off? I can't get the cover off with it attached and I'm afraid to mess with it until I know what it is.

Thanks for the help.

No need to remove the hose. The hose slides through the slot on the engine cover. When you install the painted covers, place masking tape around the slotted opening in order to avoid scraping off the paint from your freshly painted engine covers.

Easy! On the other side of the hose, the fuel rail cover is slotted. If you look closely in the picture you can see it. You simply unsnap the cover, separate the slotted leaves, and slide it off...

A little tip: Do it when the cover are warm (about 15 minutes after a ride) they flex much easer. Also do an install with the stock cover prior to painting so you get a feel for it.

Nobody answered this question yet. That is the fuel line. You probably don't want to take it off.

It is a little bit of a pain to bend the plastic to get the FRC off/on around the slit, but it will do it.

Good advice above. Before installing, also warm up the new covers on the warm engine so they are more flexible.

Use low-tack painters tape on both the braided stainless steel line and the slot in the new cover itself. Look at each old (removed) cover to see where to press down on the new covers so you don't crack the attachment points. Do the easy passenger side first to get used to how they attach. I removed one end of the black vacuum line coming off of the brake booster on the drivers side to make more room.

BTW, Victory Red covers match red brake calipers...
