I just ordered my first Corvette, a Monterey red convertible with MN6 and cashmere interior. I'm 58 yrs. old and the last new car I owned was a 1968 MG. I watched Route 66 in the 60's and I've wanted a vette ever since. I've been reading posts here and already learned a lot about ordering and owning a vette, thanks everybody. I'm dealing with a reputable, small dealer. He says his allocation is 5 a year and this is the 3rd he's ordered. He says he has no January allotment but should be able to order it in February for an April or May delivery. Everything sound OK there? I didn't order Z51 and I'd like to have chrome wheels but I'm open on the wheels. The only other options are power top and Nav.
One other thing, I lost my right eye a couple of months ago. It made me think hard about buying a corvette, whether I could get the driving enjoyment I'm looking for or if I would wind up being an overly cautious driver. Any thoughts from other one eyed corvette owners?

Congrats! You're gonna love the ride! Order details sound about right. I ordered from a big dealer and it was at the dealer five weeks after the order went in to GM, but that seems to be as fast as it gets.
You are going to love it. Don't let the eye make you second guess it. I have a good friend, early 60's, who wanted a vette since the 50's. He recently had a serious run in with prostate cancer, thought he was going to die, survived and got a 2003 Z06 and loves it. My 05 vert z51 took about 5 weeks to deliver. Don't worry about the wheels, mine are polished and to be honest I am a little disappointed, the finish is not up to my expectation. If I was ordering again I would go with aftermarket wheels.
All I can say is God bless you. You have waited nearly an eternity for your dream car and you are about to get it. I feel thrilled for you. Almost exactly one year ago, I had a very unexpected heart attack and consequently the scare of my life. After a real brush with the "life is too short" concept, I came very close to getting a C6 after I recouperated, but real life committments (college costs, daugher's wedding, etc.) got in the way. I intend to follow through as soon as I can swing it without the financial worry.... and it genuinely gives me a rush thinking of you getting yours.
With your vision impairment, you are going to have certain driving challenges regardless of what wheel you are behind -- I personally think once you have mastered the skill of compensating for peripheral vision, you should be fine - better to do it in a vette!

This is my story too, and my advice to you is - Go for it!
Great choice on a new vert. Sounds like you deserve it. I'm so glad you are getting what you want. Sorry about the eye and I agree with others that you will have the sam worries (probably not long) no matter what car you drive... why not drive the fastest American car made... Good luck and Congrats!
Congrats on ordering your 1st Corvette (it probably won't be your last).
I lost the use of my right eye while in the USAF in 1972 and have been driving fine ever since (my wife may take exception to that statement!). You do have to compensate for a few things like peripheral vision and lack of depth of field. You'll love the car.

You'll love it, Bob. I'm 58 also and just bought my first Vette (4 months and 6,000 miles). I've own two other sport cars and bought both of them new, a '73 Datsun 240Z and a '03 350Z. I traded the 350Z for the Vette. I enjoyed the 350Z but have no regrets in switching to a Vette.
