Hey, Bob, enjoy the ride. I, too, had lusted after a Vette since the '60s, ordered and got my first one last year (Black/Cashmere/MN6 and all the toys). Just drove it to work today...made going to work fun. You'll love the car and you'll learn to adapt to one eye. As another two writers said, you'll learn to compensate for the monocular vision and you'll be glad it wasn't your right foot.
I just ordered my first Corvette, a Monterey red convertible with MN6 and cashmere interior. I'm 58 yrs. old and the last new car I owned was a 1968 MG. I watched Route 66 in the 60's and I've wanted a vette ever since. I've been reading posts here and already learned a lot about ordering and owning a vette, thanks everybody. I'm dealing with a reputable, small dealer. He says his allocation is 5 a year and this is the 3rd he's ordered. He says he has no January allotment but should be able to order it in February for an April or May delivery. Everything sound OK there? I didn't order Z51 and I'd like to have chrome wheels but I'm open on the wheels. The only other options are power top and Nav.
One other thing, I lost my right eye a couple of months ago. It made me think hard about buying a corvette, whether I could get the driving enjoyment I'm looking for or if I would wind up being an overly cautious driver. Any thoughts from other one eyed corvette owners?
Bob
Bob: I'm 60 and ordered my first new vette, an '06 in August from Macmulkin. Last vette owned was in 1988 so it was a long wait what with kids growing up and all. Don't worry about having fun, you will. Had a friend of mine back in the 60s who lost his right eye when he was younger. Didn't stop him, he drove like everyone else at that time - crazy. Had a '62 Starfire and then a '65 Grand Prix. I hope you got the Museum delivery option, it's well worth it plus you get a chance to meet and greet a lot of fellow Corvette owners, all of whom are very supportive. There was a C3 reunion when I picked mine up on October 13, 2005 and everyone of them without fail gave me the thumbs up and most stopped to chat. Have a great time. At our age we deserve it!!
