Default Posts getting more belligerent?

Maybe this post will be closed or moved but, since it's directly related to postings in C6 General, I can't think of any other forum that would be more appropriate.

I've been here for well over a year, post often, and enjoy the camaraderie that develops between members over time. We often debate each other and disagree on various subjects, but members of this C6 forum have always shown respect and courtesy for one another. That's one of the great things about this group...we share information and opinions, and manage to do that with a sense of humor that's appreciated by most.

I've been dismayed at the increasing number of posts that are just mean spirited, argumentative, and downright rude. There are many posters who now seem to think that name calling and personal attacks are perfectly okay. I realize this is, after all, just a message board on the Internet. All types of anonymous personalities can, and do, post as they see fit. Unfortunately, I find that my own Ignore List has grown exponentially these past few weeks and continues to grow. Where are these people coming from?

This is not a complaint. It's just that I get a lot of pleasure out of Corvette Forum and the vast majority of the decent C6 owners and would be owners who hang out here. I'd hate to see a few jerks make this anything less than the wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable C6 board that it is.

Well said, Stan. Same reason people don't give turn signals or allow other cars to merge. Just no consideration for others. We're seeing more and more of it everywhere.

To keep this on topic - you can disagree about what your neighbor puts on his/her C6 without being nasty about it.

Internet anonymity seems to make some of the jerks seem bolder. Many of the comments I see that are innappropriate for an enthusiast oriented site would likely never be said to someones face. This is an otherwise great place to visit and learn!

Stan,
I have always enjoyed your posts and observations.

Hopefully you can read this and I am not one of the members on your ingore list.

Your intentions are well meaning and I hope you get the desired results, but I feel your efforts may be in vain.

Often people who post are not interested in helping anyone, they simply post to post, many even post outrageous responses just to get a reaction. People often just want to know if anyone is paying attention.

"Can you hear me now?"

Good Luck on your crusade, a little more understanding from on member to another would be refreshing.

I personally would think a good change to the forum would necessitate people having to read each and every post in order. If that were the case they would avoid repeating replies that others have taken the time to make.

Good Luck!

I have not really noticed it at all. Of course I am new to this forum, but I must say it's much nicer than most boards.

Not to worry...you're on my "Do Not Ignore List" if anything.

I know that the posters who crave attention will never change their behavior. I never respond to obvious trolls and try to avoid any dialog with the obvious whackos. Every once in a while however, I'll read one too many obnoxious posts and just shake my head. Today was just one of those days. (And I'll never name names). I guess this is my rant for the year...luckily, I don't have too many of them.

Thanks Stan, I think your post is timely. We all enjoy the helpful information shared on this forum, and I hope everyone will make the effort to be courteous and tolerant. Not all of us have the same level of knowledge about corvettes or computers, so a little patience goes a long way.

Stan,

Actually, I don't think it's much different from when I joined over a year ago. Remember C6XPERT, lol. You get a flurry of "activity" from some wise guys, but they fade out pretty quickly. Hang in there.

Well said Stan, although I agree with most that it was worse 1-2 years ago. Seems to go in waves, I hope were not in for the big one coming. Just try to ignore the idiots.

Count me in. I've noticed the same things, too. It's less risky to be a smartazz when you're on the web. I've gotten lots of good info from the forum, and would hate to feel that things have degenerated. I am trying to decide on going to BG for CI this May, but some posters sound like people I wouldn't drive 700 miles to associate with.

Another problem as of late is the membership list being used for PM spam. Or using the forum to link to eBay auctions which is a no no too.

Look at it this way, the CI is like a lager family reunion. Enjoy the food, the plant tour and, the rolling scenery of KY. The CI is just like the forum, if you meet someone that is a jerk, just walk away. Don't let the rudeness of a few keep you from enjoying time spent with new friends.
