I have a Nav equiped Bose system in my convertible vette. Want to keep the Nav system.
I want to upgrade speakers and power.
Anyone with personal experiences with what can be done to a vert. Obviously I don't have the space in the back like coupes to install subs.
There are all kinds of upgrades including how to use the PAC GM-24 and mod it to feed new amps from the Nav unit without moding your OEM wiring and add new speakers.
there is another thread here asking nearly the same thing. Shopdog replace his bose amp with an aftermaket one and got it to drop right in place of the Bose amp in the factory location. A lot of people are going with Eclipse speakers.
I love my C6 and the sound but I beg to differ - there are thousands of vette owners upgrading their tunes as we speak! Check out the MP3 threads and the 3k views of the C6 audio FAQ. The real facts are that GM put the sound systems of the C6 as an afterthought. There are many of us out there that would really like it all - tunes - GOOD TUNES - are important to the whole effect. The C6 is the best that GM has produced in recent years. The sound system to complete the package was sub contracted out to a low bidder. If you don't care - kwell! But those of us that do...
The only upgrade that graces the board on a minutely basis is MP3 playing in the nav ... I dont see a whole lot about loading the car with amps and subwoofers...
Ive got Bullets and headers ... hmm cant get much louder... I guess I could add a SC ...lol
I just dont care for music I guess when Ive got the car to listen to ...
Highway I listen to the radio .. but not when Im driving through town!
Speaking of that I have to drive into DC today .....GREAT!! Z51 rides nice through the streets of our nations capital
On your way to the D of C...Please be SURE to run it HARD around the Spring Hill exit on 267 for me! Aint NOTHING like a Yellow Streak screaming down the toll road! I can see the TR from my place... OHHHHH the pimp cars round here!!!
serious face.
I just installed a sub to my nav. i kept all the speakers intact. Do not listen to anyone that tells you to use a high to low level converter on the rear channel. I tried a few months ago to have an installer do it for me just because i didnt have time or effort to do it myself. He half-assed it and ran it off the rear speakers, sounded like a terrible echo.
Shopdog helped me to redo it last week. He is a wealth of information on the system.
I added a JL audio 10w3 with a 700 watt alpine mono amp. It does the trick.
The 24 pin connector has the 4 low level outs that you need if you want to connect your own amp or bypass the bose altogether. Check out the thread i started about adding a sub to the stock nav system. Also the FAQ is really helpful.
For those in doubt, Adding a subwoofer makes a HUGE difference. the bose "thumpers" are a POS. Its easier than you would think to do it yourself, most all installers have no idea how different this car is to any others.

Yes, I did; the comment related to the original post that stated he couldn't hear the exhaust unless he turned down the radio. Then, when I said maybe you should get some catbacks, he replied he had bullets & headers. At that point, I said if you can't hear the engine........
Anyway, sorry if it didn't seem to make sense; I thought it did and I was only playing around anyway.
