I was offered a brand new 2006 C6 today with 20 miles on the odometer for about 40,000 bucks, but also a 2003 Z06 for only $1000 less. How strange. If only I could get a comparable amount for my C5, the yearly Corvette upgrades would commence starting with today's C6.
Also, any of you guys have a lumbar adjuster on your C6? My C5 has it and it rocks. You hit the button, and you get a push in the lower back.
One more comment about the C6 : The brand new Z06’s are selling for about $95,000 around here. They have a tag on the sticker that says ADM for “A Dealer Markup”?. Talk about marketing. I can buy a brand new Viper for the price of a Z06, even though all the car magazines are fixated on the Corvette as the value-Viper-beater.
I was hoping to make the C5 -> C6 upgrade without a trip to the bank. I wanted to flash a Mastercard and be done with it. Guess the gap was bigger than I thought in value from a 2002 base to a 2006 base.
Is $40K a good price for a very stripped C6?
( no heads-up display, seemingly generic brand stereo, no clear top, no XM, etc.. etc..)
if its stripped then id say your getting almost 4k off msrp. thats if it has the 1lt group. msrp is 43,690 i believe on the basic new vette.be done with it and go to edmunds.com and input the info

Ya ......there should be about a $20,000.00 differancein the two cars .
I just sold my 03 Z with 18K miles for $34,500 so it appears he has the Z over priced if it's within a $1000 of the $40K he offered on the C6.
To get the HUD and Sport Seats on the C6 you'll need the 3LT package. That adds about $4500 to the base MSRP of a C6. So the cheapest 3LT you can buy is just at $48K minus any discounts.
Do you really think the dealer is going to give you $39K for 2003 Z06? I could have bought one in fall of 04 with 6K miles, for $34K (from a new car dealer), so what would they give you $39K for one today? KBB says that a 2003 Z06 with 25K on it is worth $31,600 in excellent conditions.
My 2006 has Yellow paint ($750) and Z51 ($1,300?) and I paid $42K, so $40K sounds right. I didn't want all the other stuff, except HomeLink and the mirror with a compass, but I know a person at HomeLink, and got it, now I just need the mirror.
You might try Kerbeck's web site because it gives you the ability to pick options for every model Vette and come up with the total MSRP. Also has option lists...good reference. Or try http://www.corvettec6.net/
Kerbeck also advertises their sale prices right on the web for various optioned Vettes. This is good to get a feel for what a decent price is, not necessarily in your area, but still....
I think even the standard Vette has a 6-way power driver seat which includes lumbar support. This was demo'd to me when I picked my car up.
I agree with previous posts that said "decide what you want to drive in", but not only for today, but 2-3 years or more from now. Balance that against what you can afford. And I'd use the Kelly BB or NADA guide for used cars including the one you were offered....even though its virtually new.
