Just picked up my first Vette last Saturday,06 blk/blk A6 Z51. Absolutely love the car. Today however when I went to turn it off I pushed the button and the whole start panel fell into the dash. I did not push it hard, I guess the clips were not fully seated. Hopefully it will be an easy fix to get it clipped back in. Anyone else ever have an issue like this?
I had the same thing happen on mine. Just pull the dash loose from the bottom and you should be able to put it back in. When you pull on the dash it feels like you are going to break it,but it finally pulls loose. Good luck.
Happy 4th!! I had an issue with my 2006 Corvette start button this morning very similar to what AZAFVET experienced:
Do you have any insight into how specifically the trim panel is retained and clipped into place? I'm attempting to follow the helpful directions posted by Boxcar in this thread but I certainly am feeling like Boxcar cautioned - that I'm going to break the panel if I pull any harder! I'm trying to figure out where on the panel I should pull to get it to release, and in what direction. (i.e., I don't want to be pulling aft if I should be pulling down, or outboard if I should be pulling inboard. . .or if there are screws to release.)
I do have GMPP, but unfortunately the dealer said they can't help me until after the 4th, which doesn't work well for us. So I appreciate any advice that anybody can offer with regard to what, where, and how I should pull on the dash to get the panel to release so that I can get behind it and pop my button back into place.
get a plastic panel popper tool and slide it directly under where the start button is and pop that panel off, slide your hand under and pop the button back on. i didnt have a panel popper tool so i just went by the audio shop that installed my stereo and he did it in a few minutes in the parking lot
And yes, I made use not only of the very effective SEARCH button, but also a good memory recalling that I had seen this problem on here even a few weeks before I first took delivery of my Corvette!
Problem is solved though - dash trim popped out easily, button snapped back in easily. All done. Thanks!
