Retired 18 months ago soon after my 53rd birthday. Started as a Computer Programmer on IBM mainframes. Progressed thru Systems Analyst and finished with many years as IT Project Manager. Worked for a large multinational chemical company for 18 years till my job was eliminated (translation -- they wanted to outsource Information Technology offshore to lower costs). Wife worked in sales for a large telecom company. Decided early on that I needed to be ready to retire by age 50 because that's when most corporations put a target on your back. Taught myself to save and invest for the last 19 years. Living now on the return from our stock and bond investments. I owned a 1979 Vette in Light Blue (remember that beautiful color? the color of an iceberg) when I met my wife-to-be, but traded it for an SUV to haul plants and lawn fertilizer etc when we moved into our first house. So the wife encouraged me to go for the Vette when it was time to trade the supercharged Buick Regal this winter. Loving the low-stress lifestyle, and loving the 06 Monterey Red coupe!
Not worth it when considering years spent in training / school, hours worked / wk, etc. Don't get me started.
I have (had, he recently passed away) a cousin who was a Cardiologist and he could buy and sell anyone in the family with the change in his pocket. Of course he invested well in real estate, (in Beverly Hills, CA.)
im 23 and working on a medical degree. my parents pay for my car knowing that some day ill reward them just like they have for me
in medicine ain't what it used to be! I can speak with first-hand knowledge since I've been a doctor for 30 years. Go into it because
you like it. There are a lot of other careers out there that pay better with less hassle. That's what I'm telling my kids.
Fast approaching 63. Currently a pastor of a small congregation.
22 years as a telecom manager, before leaving for seminary in 1984. Wife had 28 years with the same company in HR and as a Deming - Juran trained Quality Consultant. Five kids, (at one point had 3 in college at the same time!) Now we have an empty nest! (15 granchildren)
Designed existing house in 1965, built it in 1971.
Graduated with my first degree at age 40 and MDiv at 44. Over 30 years in ministry. (22yrs as pastor)
The C6 is my third vette. Now, some 40 plus years down the corridor of time after I traded my 63 split to accommodate a growing family, one of my sons, gave me the C6 last Sept., saying, "Dad its from me because I can afford it, but it represents all my sibs because we appreciate the dad you've been."
Dentist, 31 years old. In practice for 4 years. Wanted Corvette since I was about 7 years old. It seemed something was always coming up (School, mortgage, business, family)and I never bought a vett. Recently said screw it! (Feb 2006) purchased 2006 Silver coupe, lovin every minute of it!
Electrical Engineer. 17 years in the semiconductor manufacturing business. Used to be part of Motorola - now called Freescale Semicondutor. Very rollercoaster industry - riding the wave up at the moment - go RAZR/SLVR/PBL....
