Has anyone other than myself had this problem? My car is a 2006 c6 coupe. When you raise the hood the alternator is turning color as well as the rest of the alluminum. Looks like sh . Anybody help me. GM says that this is natural. The car was built in October of 05, hasnt been driven in the rain or snow stays inside with a cover. thanks, undertaker
Spray your engine parts with some kind of protectant occasionally and wipe them off. They will stay nice a lot longer and it will even reverse the dulled appearance of the aluminum a bit.
I usually use Aerospace 303 every couple of months. Pledge furniture polish work well too, but keep Pledge off the body paint because it contains silicones.

Not to take anything from Ed at pipedreams (his stuff is way too cool!) but if you feel really bored with nothing to do you can remove the alternater and polish it! I did it to a 455 Olds motor I had in a jet boat. Did it over the winter. Just sand with progressively (SP) finer grit finishing with about 800 grit. Will come out like chrome but will then need to be repolished to keep luster. Refer back to Ed at pipedreams!!!

Excellent post... Something I hadn't really thought about but with my C6 arriving in 2 weeks I'm going to make sure I stop those parts from looking like crap.......... Always something to be learned here on the forum... thanks...
yep alumium parts as well as alumium wheels can oxidize rather quickly. Polishing and protection are the only advice. Wondering if anyone has used P21S Polishing Soap and/or Busch's Aluminum Wash with success ?? (I have both on order to try personally)
