Default Considering making the switch

Hello to all!

I am considering making the switch from a '99 Porsche 911 to a new C6 Corvette. My father has been trying to convince me to make this switch for years, he has been the proud owner of 2 Vette's in the past, an '84 and '92. I was reluctant until I finally test drove a 2006 C6 convertible last weekend, WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE AND WHAT A CAR!

A few questions:

Do many of you use these car's as your daily driver? I travel 100 miles per day.

Do many of you change your own oil and do the basic maintenance yourself, I do most of the maintenance myself on my 911.

Great site, it seems much friendlier than the Porsche forum I subscribe to.

Thanks for any help, if I do decide to buy I will post a few pictures.

I use the C6 as a daily driver during the good months and love it. Oil changes I have done at the dealer. Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome to the forum

Now make the switch, you won't regret it and you'll wonder why you did not follow your father's lead.

And in a few months I want you to talk to my son

Welcome to the forum. I do not drive the car on a daily basis, but I do avg about 1,000 miles a month on the car. I just got back from a road trip from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles and back. 16 hours each way (just under 1,000 miles each way) all in one day each way. The car is very comfortable and we had no problems (also loved every minute of the drive).

I do my own oil changes because it is very easy to do and I know that the job is done correctly. You will find that some of the dealers and other repair shops overfill the oil and/or damage the exterior of the car when working on it.

Welcome to the Forum! I drive my C6 daily year-round, as I did my C5 before it. Very comfortable car. No problems, no worries.

I used to enjoy doing my own maintenance and you certainly can, but I've gotten lazy and now would rather pay someone else to change the oil.

Former p-car owner here.... My C6 was just built this past wed. I won't miss the p-car service bills. Loved the C6 and hard to beat for the money with any other sports car. Go for it.... and welcome to the forum!

Get whatever makes you look back over your shoulder when you walk away.

911 or Corvette, it's only a mistake if it doesn't stir your soul.

Mine's a daily driver. My round trip to work and back is approx 70 miles.
My philosphy is that if I'm going to spend that much seat time in a car, it may as well be in something fun to drive

Quite few of us do. If you maintain a 911, I think you might find the C6 a bit easier. Look in the trunk for the C6 engine.

Welcome to the forum. Many of us change the oil but I think you will find the maintenance on the C6 much less expensive then Porches. You will never know if you like the difference unless you try it.
