I also have a 3 LT with Bose with non working Automatic volume control. Its a 2006 I have had since October and it never worked from day 1. So far, per factory instructions, dealer has replaced sensing microphone and cable which did not help at all. The factory now has instructed dealer to replace the whole radio. It has been on back order for over a month now. I think its a pervasive problem for the non Nav Bose radios and that I am waitng for either a software or hardware re-design solution. Does anyone have a 2006 non-Nav 3LT on whicvh the AVC works as the Bose WEB sight describes ?
QUOTE=CLLOFF]Just getting to know my new C6.
I have a 3LT Bose, but no NAV.
When I hit the auto volume button it says on/off as I toggle through.
The manual seems to indicate there should be a low/med/high setting for the auto volume.
My C5 used to have that.
But I can seem to find that on the new C6.
Just using the "on" does not seem to work very well, at least compared to my C5.
Am I missing something?[/QUOTE]
If I drive over a bridge with the windows open...tires make lots of noise and volume goes up significantly...so I know it is working...but I definitely don't notice the volume changing that much with the windows up. I can't say it's not working...I just don't notice it as much as my 05 Tahoe that schedules the volume based on speed.
Same for my 06 C6 with NAV. There is only a on/off and no low/med/high. I only notice a slight difference in volume when I speed up, but it seems very spuratic.
Also, I notice that my XM stations do not have as high of a volumn as the CD or Fm channels. Is this normal ? Sometimes I can turn the volume all the way up when the top is down and I still don't hear it that loud until I stop.
You said it, but maybe you didn't realize it. It is Bose. The non-Bose systems in the Corvette do have multiple auto volume settings. They work by triggering off different car speeds as reported to the radio over the Class II bus. Bose doesn't do it that way. In the Bose systems, a small microphone is located in the passenger compartment to measure ambient noise. The circuitry is then supposed to dynamically control the volume level based on this ambient noise measurement. In theory, this is a better system. In practice, because it is Bose, and Bose typically doesn't execute even good ideas very well, it is a lousy system.
iIt works in mine as there is much more increase in volume with the top down ans with the top up. I didn't use the feature on the two c-5's I owned. Unable to compare. Happy with this system.
I find it subtle, but I know it works because when I set the volume of the radio/CDs at 30 MPH w/ the top off and then speed up to 80 MPH I still hear the music. If I did not think about it I would never notice it, because it would seem natural, except that with the increase growl of engine and wind noise its very unnatural, the volume must be adjusting. That said if you crank it at 30 MPH it can only go so loud when you haul @ss.
I didnt think mine worked well either until I got my GHLs. When I am slowing and the backpressure brings the decibels up, you can hear the radio increases in volume. If I press in the clutch, the volume drops suddenly.
