6 CD Changer
I have about 75 hours of continuous music in my 6-disc changer...about 1200 MP3 songs. It's great for road trips!!!Apparently the poster's asking about something other than the in dash system, though.

Why?
He doesn't say.
First off, some of us have the Nav and therefore only a single cd slot. It is clear that both the single cd and 6 cd in dash changer have mp3 capability.
There is the ability to add a trunk mounted 6 cd changer(although it is is a bit overpriced). There is conflicting information as to whether or not THIS changer will play mp3's. While a single mp3 cd may be sufficient music for some others want more easy access to variety. A hard drive based mp3 player is the best solution but thus far having one that works AND displays info on the nav screen is not available. One alternative to this would be 6 additional mp3 cd's thus providing probably at least 72 hours of music, displayed on and controlled by the factory nav without having to change out cd's etc.

Thank you....jeeze

As a few others have [alread] suggested, Fred Beans sells the remote unit about as inexpensively as you're going to find anywhere.
And while (considered) "expensive" what other recourse do NAV folks who want the multi-disc capacity have but to poney-up the $$?
Then there's the question of whether or not the remote unit will display song titles etc on the NAV screen, something one'd think Chevrolet would've designed into the system, but in reality does it?
I've no clue about that, sorry.

OTOH if one went to a totally different aftermarket system that'd display and everything else they wanted?
I've the feeling they'd probably learn the real meaning of "costly".
Good luck finding the solution, I'm sure one's available.
It'll just have a nice price tag associated with it, is all.
1. The trunk mounted 6-disc changer does not play MP3 discs.
I have an MP3 CD that is in the head unit, and moving it to the trunk prduces the message "CD Error" for that CD when trying to access it through the head unit. I have also tried all MP3 CDs in the changer as somebody suggested, and that does not work either. I have not seen a report from anybody who has MP3 functionality from the trunk mounted unit in their car. So far, all reports on MP3 from the trunk seem to be heresay, innuendo, or GM Assistance (which is the same thing).2. According to the stealership where I had my changer installed, there has been a very high rate of returns and warranty repairs on the remote CD units. I ordered mine from Fred Beans in PA, and it arrived broken (but you could not tell until you tried to install it). The installing dealer replaced the unit under warranty.
3. The remote unit does NOT display song information in the head unit. Disc and track numbers only.
4. Overall impressions: This would have been a great upgrade if it had been able to play MP3s as advertised. Also, the quality is not quite there, as "CD Error" messages pop up frequently, even with store bought (non burned) CDs.

There appears to be a device that interfaces iPOD with the NAV. I would imagine an interface would be available for other MP3 devices.

Mine doesn't. Very early 05's will not play mp3's.
